Hi, been reading this thread for some time, and finally got a BP-200 from ebay... I desperately need the extra grip (big hands). Once it arrives, I'll sure try the modification smtan24 talked about.. looks pretty simple. But, will I be able to lock focus? and meter?

I suppose I will, but read some posts that lead me to think I may not... can anyone clear that out? Thx in advance!

Ike.

ikephoto field tested it. Works fine. The focus lock and shutter release works fine. You'll need a soldering iron to do the wiring.

Yummy. I want one.

 for those of you who get this to work! Happy shooting! :D

do you guys know if there is an aftermarket grip for the 5D? not having any luck with google or yahoo

Happened to meet d4nie today at marina sq.
wat luck another fellow minolta user with a diyed batt grip;p ...although handled it for a short while
Howver it make a lot of difference especially with such grip...it really help to take portraiture shots easily and comfortably...going to look for a bp200 tmr for those who had some doubt abt it...i can only said it really work very well
and yes...guys quickly get the gurus here to conduct a mass mod of the bp200 batt pack for yr d5d...even if u had to paid to get it done...i would say it worth it :)

smtan24, do you have any recommendation of tools to solder the required parts of the bp200?

any way to test the voltage of the remote cable plugging into the 5d to ensure we wont fry our loved cameras? really tempted to give this diy vg a shot

Just a normal soldering iron. Don't need to worry for the shutter to release all the cables must be shorted. Get it wrong and the auto focus at half press won't work. Just refer to the diagram earlier in this post.:dunno:
