Anyone willing to mod one for me? I will pay you for it.

Hi, I just got my BP-200. After modding the battery insert, I have it now nicely sitting under my camera. The grip itself doesn't feel 100% ready for the camera, it's a bit flimsy, but indeed it improves the handling of the 5D A LOT!

I'm trying to get the shutter button on the VG to work, but the main problem I get is inserting the CDrom audio cable connector inside the remote port of the 5D... I did cut the extra pin out, but I just can't get it to connect firmly. Did you guys have to force it in? I'm afraid of breaking the pins.... I already identified all the cables to know which one goes where, and works great so I just need to solder now (!!)

As i said, I just can't insert the connector deep enough to stay firmly, and I'm afraid of breaking the pins... one already bent a bit...! Any clues?

U FORCED IT IN?!

Erm.... I'm not sure if anyone can help u rebending the pin back without breaking it into 2. Maybe other brothers might be able to help u. Ups for u.

No no no! Don't panic!

The Remote connector slot is so small I couldn't really see what I was doing... Seemed like the pin was starting to bend, but it was a false alarm sorry! When cutting away the 4th pin in the CDrom audio cable, i shaped it a bit so it would fit better. But I removed too much slack plastic and the fit was too loose so it wouldn't stay in... I was "forcing" it in, but it just wouldn't stay....

So I took the other end of the cable and started again, leaving a bit more plastic on the sides. Now it fits quite well and stays put, but I still have to solder things properly... Erroneously I bought some "soldering" iron, not supposed to be soldered... back to the shop now. If everything works well, I'll be using my VG this evening. :D

Keep us posted.

Just do it...
not difficult...

1st is unscrew everything...
and cut the remaining battery insert...

this one first...

Sounds scary. I would rather leave it to the more adventureous.;)

I find not too adventurous, if you've got a BP-200 lying around and don't use it... do it! Cut the battery insert and that's all! 5D improves a lot with a better grip... and I mean A LOT! Then you can choose to try fiddling with the remote connector, that's up to you :D

My VG is now permanently attached to the camera, it was a great idea guys. I should thank everyone that helped here in the process... And now, off to take more pics!

Unscrewing is easy...

you unscrewed already?

do that 1st lah..

you can see what inside 1st also..
then you will find that all is damn simple thing inside...

ikephoto if you want to prevent the vertical grip from moving too much add thoses cicular grips which you normally find on chair legs. It helps.

Look here : Another Mod...

This guy uses the BP200, add shutter release, add 2 KM NP 800 batteries and mod the whole BP-200 to be able to charge using the BC 400 charger!

A step by step pictorial instruction.

Balls of steel

ALL HAIL THE KING~~~

hmm... i just knew that inside those boxed battery also AA like size.
But sacrificing two NP800... ummm.... need to rethink 1st...
maybe similar cheaper solution is possible..

hmm.. i wonder if can get at simlim...

If you look closer, the circuitry is to protected the batteries from short circuit or over heating, I guess. But then, cost and availability is a factor. I've been tinkering about using those CR123 rechargeables.

OT - Muko, thanks for the lens.:D

BP200 mod circuitry for shutter release and battery. Batteries from NP800.
