I must say that the E-620 is the first 4/3 DSLR to get me take out my $$$ even before it is available.

I am into 4/3 because of the small and light advantages it can offer, thus the E-1, E-3 and E-30 didn't work for me while I always wished for the guts of these higher end 4/3 DSLRs to be placed into something the size of E-4XX/5XX. For anything larger, I will rather go for FF or a DSLR with a superior sensor such as the S5 pro. I like my E-420 a lot but it is a little limited by the lack of IS, narrow DR, smallish VF and slow AF speed.

Short of weatherproofing which is not that critical, that has become reality with the E-620.

I think that Olympus just saved their 4/3 platform with the release of this camera.
If you like your E-420 a lot, then I think, you would like the upcoming E-620 more than 'a lot'. :)

My only problem with the E620 is that now I have to buy new batteries for it. :D

what?! manual out already?

i hope someone posts a final-build review soon. a lot of itchy hands this May :D

A little question bro,

Would you pay an extra $100 if Olympus adds HD video recording on E620?

... and kill their new E-30 investment? naaa .... I dun think so Oly is so smart to do that!

Wow! Specs look really good! Looks like a worthy upgrade from my E-510!

From dpreview, the differences are great compared to E30: I reckon it should be cheaper than E30: I own the E30, which I found focusing very good, and so much lighter than E3. With the E620...it is what we need!

E-620 is smaller (by around 1cm in each dimension) and around 180g lighter (body only) --good
Slightly smaller viewfinder with reduced frame coverage (0.96x, 95%, vs. 1.02x, 98%) --can live with this.
7-point AF (5 cross-type) vs. 11-point (all cross-type) -- can live with this.
Improved LCD (Hypercrystal III, vs. E-30s' version II unit) --wow, good!
Only one control dial (vs. E-30's two) --not so important, I find.
Slower continuous shooting rate (4fps for 5 RAW frames, vs. 5fps for 12) --okay, can live with this.
Fewer aspect ratio crops (3 vs. 8) --not so important
No built-in digital level gauge --hardly use this
Only allows two exposures to be overlaid in multi-exposure mode (vs. 4) --never found this useful in E30
No PC flash sync or DC-in sockets ---can live with this
Slower x-sync (1/180 sec vs. 1/250 sec) and max shutter speed (1/4000 sec vs. 1/8000 sec) ---seldom use this
Lower capacity BLS-1 battery (7.2V 1150 mAh) vs. BLM-1 (7.2V 1500 mAh) --battery life may be a problem

Overall, E620 is what we need...light, and good performer, especially with ISO up to 3200.

Good ...new camera.

For people who like the handling of E-420 and also want a light weight dSLR which can perform, this is the dSLR for them. Personally, having handled this new model for a limited time, I'd say I like the handling and styling, especially with HLD-5 on it. Image quality is good, for me. I'm impressed. It seems like Olympus has matched (or even better than) what the competitors can offer. :)

I just wished they included the EV and Fn buttons on the HLD-5, and also allowed the functionality to switch the AFL/AEL and Fn buttons, like the E-30 and E-3...

Where/when did you manage to 'handle' the E-620?!

The e620 is not yet out and you already handled it. You must be one of the R&D of Olympus

Not necessary to be R&D of Olympus to play with it before it launch. diCam & his group work closely with Olympus. Now you know why he can play with it before launch.

Are there anymore surprises from Olympus this coming PMA2009?
