something's off with the photozone images...

look at their iso200 from the e-620 http://photozone.smugmug.com/photos/550972117_G9rnn-O.jpg

im pretty sure my e620 doesnt have iso200 images this bad :dunno: it looks like something taken by a PnS

to quote the reviewer:

hehe oh well...

Something is not off. I am getting bad images off my E-620 also. The blue sky is very similar to the picture posted.

Pictures viewed above 80% is fill of those noisy dots. My aged E-330 produce a much cleaner picture.

Looking at the image properties, I think that image have Gradation on 'Auto', and Sharpness at +2 -- both capable of turning up 'noise'.

That was the initial problem I had. I have since switched the gradation to Normal and sharpness to 0. Shooting in RAW or JPG at the highest resolution, it's still giving this "noise".

for entry-level dslrs, some noise is expected. it depends on the user how much acceptable noise is

but my comment was with photozone's images. the noise was really bad for ISO200... which we found out was because they turned up the Sharpness setting to +2, Saturation +2. probably with Gradiation in Auto also

I would suggested that tuning down the "sharpening" could help to keep the noise in control. Most cropped sensors have responded negatively when we tuned up "sharpening".

Agreed, my good old E330 had very good clear pic at Lijiang that stunned my friends with Nikon D200 and canon EOS

The E620 takes very nice photos. But there is one thing I have noticed about it is that the auto WB on the E3 beats the auto WB on the E620 hands down. As we all know, it is due to the external WB sensor on the E3. It does make a big difference.

there is an External WB sensor on the E-620..is that not working?

probably because of the location of the ext WB sensor on the e-620. its quite close to the shutter button and might be a bit covered by the fingers

but for me i only find fault in the auto WB on tungsten lighting, normally i have to use other presets (i usually use fluorescent2) or custom WB on tungsten. the live view to preview the WB is a big help

Oh, OK. I din know got ext WB sensor. But it does strike me that indoor WB and WB in the shade usually a little too cool. Maybe I have been inadvertently covering my sensor. Gotta check it out.

Yeah....there is a white plastic sensor between the hand grip and the flash unit. But it is small tho, I think smaller than the E3 one. Maybe that may be the reason why the WB is a little cooler compared to the E3? Or it could be different software settings if the WB sensors are mechanically / electronically the same.

yeah its smaller. i wonder if the e-30 performs the same as the E-30 or the e-620?

Help! I am also having noise problem with my E620. Not sure it's the camera or the lens.

E620 + Zuiko 70-300mm lens on tripod

Exposure Time = 1/125"
F Number = F6.3
Exposure Program = Aperture priority
ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Exposure Bias Value = ±0EV
Max Aperture Value = F4
Metering Mode = Pattern
Light Source = unknown
Flash = Not Used
Focal Length = 300mm

Digital Zoom Ratio = 1x
Scene Capture Type = Normal
Gain Control = Low gain up
Contrast = Normal
Saturation = Normal
Sharpness = Normal

Thanks

Did you check gradation? Should be on Normal instead of Auto.

yr pic is also a bit soft almost like oof.

yeah, I think u shd be more concerned about it being out of focus in ur photo than about the so called noise issue.

Yes, you were right, gradation was on Auto. Will set to Normal and try. Thanks.

Thanks, will try to improve on focusing.

Does anyone know or did a test whether AF speed of e620 +12-60 similiar to e3 + 12-60 or slower/faster ?
