Direct order of large format or medium format film from Fujifilm

Huh??? Isn't cibachrome a thing of the past?

Ilford has announced the discontinuation of Cibachrome/Ifochrome. I believe they have taken the last batch of order, and this order will be delivered until Jun 2013. After which, unless the guys in China is going take this upon themselves, possibility the ultimate, most brilliant, most archival display medium for chromes will come to an end. See this thread:

Ilfochrome Update

With the passing of Ilfochrome, I don't know if the life of E6 will be cut short as well. After all, if one only cares about digital scanning, it's a lot easier to simply shoot negatives - wider exposure latitude made them so much more forgiving than chromes. The end result doesn't make much difference anyway if you go through the digital path. Ilfochrome/cibachrome has always been the ultimate destination for any photographer that shoots chromes - well, not anymore after Jun 2013. B&H still have some starter kits left, so if anyone that's keen, we can buy a set to share.

I have read that the closest alternative to ilfochrome/cibachrome in terms of the brilliance of display, is Fujiflex Crystal Archive, which is a RA-4 based medium. I am not sure if any lab locally offers it. With the wet darkroom, I think we are able to give this a try.

FWIW I've been printing with Frank Green (The Lab - Index) for the past few years. His work is superb, and he likes to talk to you about your image before printing it. That kind of attention usually isn't given to small fry like me. He tells me he has material to print for the next 3 years so there is a bit of time yet for cibachrome.

Was at lower pierce shooting sunset and it hit me. Time to shoot slides and do a cibachrome before it dies out. My black and white 4x5 is not doing the scene justice

Wow that is good. The lady from fuji singapore has not responded to me yet! Still waiting for japan side email. Sorry to fuji sg, we should just jump the gun! Its really sad that singapore side is not enthusiastic to keep the LF community alive.

I'm Keen too for 120s and some 135 neopan!

Any updates on this topic?

got any news? I dipping my toes into 4x5 format. But the camera set I eyeing don't have sheet film holder. Only have Polaroid 550 back. Wondering if quickloads can fit into the polaroid back or any shifu can let go a grafloc to a poor uni-boy like me at a good price (:

anw anyone knows if Fuji Japan still have stock of FP100C45 anot? Thanks thanks

Edit: oh yah, I thinking of shooting velvia, wondering how ruby charge for development? might do b/w neopan if possible, bring to school to develop.

The word on the street is that the FP100C45 has been discontinued. You can still get remaining stocks from the online stores while it lasts. FP films is a lot more expensive in Japan than in the US, so I'm not sure if that's where you want to look for supplies.

You may want to look for the Polaroid 405 or the Fujifilm 145 backs, both of which takes the smaller 3.25 x 4.24" FP films that are still in production. Having an instant back is very useful. Besides the beauty of the film itself, it is also a very useful proofing tool, especially when you have to add in exposure compensation, or when you do flash photography.

AFAIK, there's no more labs in Singapore and Malaysia that processes E6 sheet films anymore. The rest of us have come together to share a few lots of Fujihunt C6R (E6) chemicals and do the processing ourselves:

[h=1]Anyone wants to share some E6 chemicals?[/h]
To get things going, I can help you to process the sheet films. We also frequently do bulk order of sheet films from Adorama and B&H. If you would like to be kept in the loop when we do that, please PM me, and I will drop you a note when we next place order.

4x5 slides is very very very addictive. You have been warned :-)

My Fujihunt chemicals still not touched, mainly because house minister disallow use of colour developers.

I like to donate it to the Co-op dark room. :)

Loshen, let us discuss if we can order the film, FP100C from Fuji direct?

Hey,

Sure! Bring along your jobo set too, and you can actually do the processing at the darkroom instead if you want!

Let's discuss this when we meet up. Looking at the prices of the Fujifilms in Japan online stores, unless there's a large markup by these retailers, they don't seem cheap at all. For example, the online price of FP-100C at Yodobashi is JPY2090, about SGD31!:

富士フイルム(FUJIFILM) FP-100C

So even if we can get them at a 50% discount, they are still far more expensive than what we can get from the US, shipping and GST included. The rising YEN has created a huge problem for us. I wonder if they have been artificially suppressing the prices in the US in order to keep the market afloat there. Ok, enough speculation, let's work on it when you get better!

Rising YEN is killing Japan. They should be aware of it. Now the YEN has climbed more than 35% since last year. This is crazy.

Ebay offers are still OK. I cannot complain because Polaroid 6X6 was gone for a very very long time, and I am grateful still can shoot FP100C45.

Loshen, I just found about 12 rolls of negatives of my kids' baby pictures. :) invaluable.

Well, I think you'll need to get hold of a Polaroid 405 or a Fujifilm 145 holder to use with the smaller FP-100C files when the 4x5 version runs out. You still have 2 box with me!

Take care of those precious negs! Ernest made a comment about Vivian Maier's story on my Google+ - would a Vivian Maier be discovered in the same manner some half a century later? No - because all that will be left is an old hard disk that's not compatible with any of the current hardware, and files saved in a format that no current application can read. That's assuming the hard disk mechanism and platter hasn't failed by then :-) So, Vivian Maier was lucky to have born in the film era!

Keep those negs safe! :-)

Negatives will fade after ten years. I kept mine in air tight envelopes (well..... still at ambient).
I recently rescanned many film. Spent over 2k. Should had let KGSton have the business.

I know of many many potogs called me up to 'revive' their hard drive.
My suggestion is, the MTBF of the HDD is poor. Keep two copies at least.
Burn onto CDR cannot be 100% fool proof.

Some one should propose a Poka Yoke (PARKA Yoke) method to prevent total data loss.

A properly washed b/w negs shouldn't fade in 10 years. I most definitely have negs dated to the time I first started photography, and thats much longer than 10 years ago :-) Also, I've bought a bottle of the Fujifilm AgGuard to doubly make sure they don't. Want to treat some of your b/w negs? :-)

Forget about CDRs - they fail at an alarming rate. Not to mention that with the MacBook Air setting the trend, you are not going to see a DVD/CDR drive around within a decade.

And here's a really great document on how to archive films:

Handling and Preservation of Color Slides Collections

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome. LF community seem so friendly and close knit :D

I think i researching more before I commit. I nearly got the 4x5 liao but cause cannot get the FP100C45 in Singapore and the kit I eyeballing don't have sheet film holder I considering again. The Cam X boss tell me he going Japan and will look for stocks for the grafloc back and the FP100C45 for me this week. Will post again soon, hopefully

Anyway Losheng, please keep me in the loop for the ordering of film. I interested in Fuji Velvia 100 4x5. Shot that in 35mm already super poisoned. Wasted never shot my RZ67 in that film before selling it at clearance price. Thanks (:
