can admins set it such that threads older than 1 year old are automatically locked, but still stored on the database?

some person is diggin up old polls in the canon subforums. can admins check into it?

I have closed those threads for now. Will look for a solution soon.

Actually, i find digging up old threads is necessary!

Many CSers will ask you to 'search' for info b4 you start a new thread. Then you found a very relevant thread that answer your queries. However, occassionally, you may have a few unanswered queries still, so you 'continue' asking in the old thread, instead of starting a new thread!

SO HOW!!!??? You start a new thread, they slam u & ask u to 'search'. When u found the relevant thread, they slam u again for digging up old threads!

I find this whole thing a rather hilarious-cum-ridiculous situation.

The problem here is not the digging up of old threads per se, but that of people voting on old, long-dead polls thereby "digging" them up from the grave. Which probably has no value or meaning...

If you had gone to the canon thread when this complaint came about you will understand.

The first page and half of the second page was full of dug up polls that was posted 1~3 years ago.

Its like digging for the sake of digging.

Hi,

The problem here is not the digging up of old threads per se, but that of people voting on old, long-dead polls thereby "digging" them up from the grave. Which probably has no value or meaning...

The problem with the digger is they probably did not even pay attention to the original date when the thread was started, nor did they pay attention to when the thread was laid to rest.

TS for poll has to take the blame too.
TS should put a closing date for poll created.
This will prevent anyone from digging up old polls.

some purposely just dig up old polls..

ya but if the mods make it such that threads that are say longer than 3/6 months get auto closed, then for those "genuine" cases as mentioned by look4raymond how?

if there are genuine questions that need to be asked, a new thread can always be opened. but the situation now is that people are asking the same-old-questions all over again, and therefore kena slammed for asking similar qns.

just my suggesstion, for look4raymond's case, he can always do a search first, then if he still has unanswered queries, open a new thread, and link the old thread in the new thread such that his qn is sort of a "follow up" to the old thread.

Some digging up old thread just for fun. Can we report the thread to admin to lock it?

Regards,
Arto.

1 week old liao, u dig up old thread just for fun? ;p

anyway, i think we should, either that, or ask the TS to close it via pm. depending on type of thread reopened.

Yes, please report the threads which have been "bubbled" up so that we can close it off. Polls especially.

1 week is not too old considering someone digging up 2005 thread :sticktong . And this thread is still on main page of forum. It is better than if I create a new thread ;p .

Thank you for clarification Darren  .

There will always be new memebers / newbies joining... Most likely many questions will be asked and asked over again. When they can't find the answer to their questions especially from super old or LONGGGG threads, the easier way out is definitely to start a new one... But they often got slam for that... Posting questions which cause an up of the thread also get them :kok:...

Maybe can leave a FAQ section where all the question technical/skills of photography can be placed somewhere...

We can use our sense to judge whether the thread is digging up because it is really important (for newbie) or just digging up for fun...

Sometimes can help, help... cannot then bo pian... nothing worse than threads who try to seek attention.

Hi all,

A suggestion .... excuse me if it is not possible or won't work ... just a thought :)

What if threads older than say 12 months became "read only".

In doing so, if you wish to refer someone to a past thread " for information on some subject"

they can read it, but it will not allow that person to add to it thus bringing it forward.

Meaning, if you ask a question that is asked often and I link you to a thread 2 years ago that discussed the question in depth,

you click on that link, but in doing so, you can not add to or alter that thread thus bringing it forward.

Actually, reading what I have just written would involve locking all threads over 12 months ago ..... haha silly me :embrass:

Just the same thing that +evenstar said.

Oh well.... I guess it must be a good idea then ;)
