DFA 100 WR Macro Handson Review

Who says the FA 77mm can't focus at close range?
Of course it can, I've done it.

Of course what we ought to be talking about is the maximum magnification.
The FA 77mm is a short telephoto and not originally designed with macro in mind, so it only goes to 0.14x magnification. However FA 77mm users can achieve higher magnification ratios by using supplementary close-up lenses, extension tubes or reverse rings... or by cropping.

The DFA 100mm f/2.8 Macro WR is a true macro lens, allowing 1x magnification (1:1 or lifesize) of the subject. Moreover it is flat field corrected, which allows even center to edge image sharpness, useful when copying or shooting flat objects.

Ah... ic.. learning new stuff each day.. ^^
Hmm... that's make of buying the FA77mm instead of the 100mm WR :sweatsm:
How much longer must i Save for it!!

Ummm... Then how abt Samsung Dxenon 100mm 2.8? since it manufactured same place. Using Scheneider lens.

Actually I bought that one since its cheaper than DFA. :P

Quite alright for me.

Will post a pic of it. Dun mind if I share this lense since its the same K-mount and design all the same with the DFA 100mm 2.8. But the WR DFA looks more Chio and compact.

the DFA 100 WR has no aperture ring, so if you are shooting macro with dumb ext tube, you may have a problem. Otherwise and if budget permit, get the DFA 100 WR.

I hate u :P .... Y must u do this to me ... lol

'Cause someone was calling me yesterday. I guess it's better just push this one to the top so I don't need to do comparison again :)

I was the one looking for Fengwei lah!!! I have an offer to get a used but very good condition DFA100 (Non-WR) version so checking with Mr Fengwei on the main differences between the new and old version. I have read my reviews on both lens and seems like the pros for the new version are as below:

1. nicer and round bokeh... (but does not really make a diff to me)
2. better finishing (the lens really look very very chio)
3. smoother manual focusing ring (tired at SAM last Saturday and got to admit that it is damn silky smooth)
4. WR obviously
5. Can't think of anymore now...

So I have to evaluate the cost savings for the used lens as compared to a new copy of the WR version since I will be testing the used lens later this afternoon with the seller. Need honest opinions from those who have used both. Thanks.

Since you asked again, here is the copy of my reply to your PM:

The second hand DFA100 macro you are buying is at least 3 year old, the DFA100WR macro is brand new lens. If you think the $340 difference is significant enough to you, then just buy the earlier DFA100 macro. It's a great lens anyway. But to me the newer WR version is a better lens, worth the difference. I'd go for the newer WR one given the choice.

As to the comparison, please take a look at my thread here:

Good luck
