This is the result of my first B&W developing.

HC110 - 1:7
Use water to stop bath
Ilford Rapid Fixer - 1:5

C&C from the experts please.

Film use is Ilford Delta 400

just to share...i have used a bit of the lucky shd 100, and yes it'll be good if we can get the 400 version.

my method of development for the lucky film and era film also, is i do it standing..!!
as in stand development...i use HC or LC29 (thats about the only developer available easily in KL...) in a dilution of 1:100 or even 1:110...
let it have an initial agitation of about 1 minute and my times varies from 45 minutes up to 60 minutes even, all in tropical temperature...pretty happy with my results...

One warning for stand development, ie, using very weak developer and develop over a long time such as 45mins or 60mins, is that the emulsion can become very soft and very easily scratched. So, be careful not to use a squeegee after washing, and just let the negative drip dry after adding wetting agent.

Finally, I think I settle with this setup:
Developer : HC110 (Dilution H - 1:63) 12mins
Fixer: Ilford Rapid Fixer (1:4) 2-5mins
Wetting agent: 3 drops of mama lemon

Here the sample using Agfa APX400

Quite satisfy with the results.

Woo Hoo!!!! My first attempt at developing my own B&W negs at home in Dubai! And I carried 2 bottles of HC-110 and Ilford Rapid Fixer each in my checked in luggage. All that extra weight was worth it!

Congratulations.

BTW, the HC110 is going to last you a LONGGGGG time.

a big thank u to chiif and other contributors to this thread. i must say i was really inspired by u guys and went to ruby to get the darkroom stuff. but D-76 and Hc-110 no stock!! so i had to get the ID-11 and rapid fixer instead. all the equipment cost about $120 in total including the tank, reels, thermometer etc. thanks to the great instructions and other tips like using mama lemon and the plastic bag ice thing. i managed to successfully develop and scan my first roll. haha. just to share.

theres a little strip of light leak thanks to my stupidity... i opened the camera back accidentally...

After years of listening to the constant complaints of my old ball and chain (aka wife) about the two crates of gear doing nothing by take up valuable store room space and collecting dust..........(blah blah blah), I finally gave in and sold all my darkroom gear earlier this year. Doh! <and sound of hand slapping head>. What a dumb thing to do!!

Now, I am getting the itch to start developing B+W again but I've got no gear. My question - is Ruby the only retailer selling B+W gear in Singapore? I dropped by the shop and found that they had a reasonable selection of chemicals and films but hardly any gear. Where else can I buy stuff like Paterson dev tanks, reels, weighted film clips, squeegees etc Kaiser (concertina type) containers etc? Eng says they have an order for some Paterson dev tanks but isn't sure if they'll come in before the end of the year. Anybody know who else sells such stuff in Singapore? Any help would be much appreciated. I will resort to online order from Bhphoto or Adorama only if I cannot find it sold here.

They don't have stock of the Universal Tank. They are currently selling what appears to me to be a clone of the Universal Tank, the brand name escapes me.
They may have stock arriving later.

I've not used this but am planning to: http://nilemada.com/?page_id=93
Its an application that replaces your darkroom notebook. Basically, lets you note down the film type, the developer used and the times.
Seems pretty useful for those who seldom pick up a pen, ie, me.

Also, a sample of HP5+.

You are right. They do have lots of lovely stuff for darkroom and b+w work. Bought quite a bit of stuff today from the nice saleslady but the Paterson tank still eludes me. They have Jobo though. I've used Jobo tanks before for developing Cibachrome print paper many moons ago. Too easy to end up with a dislodged cap either by not capping it perfectly straight down or by lifting it up by the big bright orange rim. Still the same today. Its ok with paper, you just lose a print which can be done again but not when undeveloped film is involved. Hmmm, looks like I'll be sending an order to BHPhoto soon for the Paterson Universal Tank.

How much will it cost to bring a Paterson Universal Tank in?
Still prefer to process film with one of these instead...
:)
