Desperately desperately in need of help for my son

IC you're doing a great job. Get the condition under control and discuss with your son how he can control the itching as well (that is with distractions....keeping hands and minds occupied with other things). Since you're using Western medicines for the moment, antihistines will dull the itch and at least give the skin time to heal.

Side effect for me is that I feel really tired if I take them in the day. If I take them at night, I feel like a truck has rolled over me when I wake in the morning.

My son's condition requires him to take the maximum dosage for the antihistamines in relation to his age and weight. Not much of an effect cause I still have to wake up in the middle of the night for the last 1 week to ease his condition by rubbing for him. Could not really get a deep night and blissful sleep. Kind of tired. Thank God it is CNY and I dun have to work. The problem is I am so used to waking up early and could not get to sleep even though I am tired. But tx a lot for all the moral support given

If I may add, avoid touching it with your fingers. Scratching, scrubbing, peeling or rubbing will not help the condition either. I had been thru it and I know its not easy to overcome it.

A skin specialist once advised me to use shampoo to bath and it worked. Shampoo contains moisturizers and was quite soothing after a shower. For face, use a very mild soap if face is oily. If its not oily and eczema is affecting the region, just use tap water to rinse and dab dry.

If you are on steroids based medication, stop using it for next three weeks. It may help speed up recovery. THis is my discovery, but may not apply for others. Asthma doctors would not agree with me about steroids though.

Asthma actually requires the use of steroids to open the airway. So there is no conflict at all with the medicine.

In one of the earlier posts, swimming in the pool was recommended due to the chlorine. We did think of that and tried it before. It became worse cause the chlorine actually dried up the skin even worse even though it detox the skin. Kind of a double binding thing.

Hi Haze

I know how you feel. I had eczema on my face as a teenager and it was aweful when the skin was flaking off. Right now with winter (am in the UK), the heating causes the skin on my face to become very dry. Despite putting cream on every day, I look like a person suffering from mild leprosy (that's how I feel sometimes when I have constant skin dangling off my face).

What keeps me going is that conditions always appear worst to oneself than it is to anyone else and if it isn't then they will either stare or physically move away from you when you come close. Folks have said they have not noticed - they are either being kind or it really is not as noticeable as one believes.

IMHO physical attributes are superficial and I believe although people may be a little concerned when they look at any one of us who suffers from skin ailments, that soon goes when they are speaking to you.

Kindness, love, joy, humility, humbleness cannot be hidden by physical attributes.

Be strong in your character and know what comes out of your mouth is far more important than how the surface of your skin appears.

However, still recommend you find a proper TCM doctor to help you resolve your ailments or think about a diet change for a month. Look for ones that detox the liver. Also if you have the chance - go swimming in the sea.

Wishing you lots of positive energy to help you.

Lady Ice,
It seems that u have suffered a lot from eczema. May God bless you.

I agree with contaxable. Have suffered with eczema for over 20 years, however have it mostly under control except in winter (urgh - am normally back in sg except for this year).

Never found chlorine water helped my skin - always made it worst. However found time in the sea water always helped me.....stings like crazy at first so need to watch the scratching and then after more bathes in it (over days).....symptoms are reduced and can actually seem to disappear if am there long enough. Sea water away from boating areas is the best.

Ice helps to relieve the symptoms especially when the rashes are inflammed and itchy. Feel the skin before you scratch and after you scratch. The hotter it feels, the itchier it gets. Doing an ice pack (not more than 10 minutes though) will help to cool down the area. So when the eye areas are itchy a cool eye pack seems to help me.

Distractions are the best.......so I like cooking and washing the dishes.

Finally at night I tend to sleep on top of my arms and if am really itchy, have got up and had a cold shower. Sometimes tempted to have a hot blast - but this ALWAYS makes it worst after.

IC - you being there for your son is really fantastic for an eczema sufferer (as well as the enormous bonding)

For my little nephew (who is now big and has his eczema under control), I used to do what you do. When he was itchy before sleeping, I would hold one hand and draw shapes on the palm of his hand to get him to guess what picture I wanted him to imagine and tell stories about it and then get him to do the same on my palm. Eyes always closed.

Your son may be too old for this but talking about anything peaceful or calming may be beneficial as he will learn to control the urge to scratch.

Personally when folks tell me "don't scratch" and "you'll make it worst".....makes me focus even more on the problem. Slapping my hand off an itch area also seems to make me want to scratch more.

Take care and loads of positive energy to you :) You are a fantastic father, and your son will appreciate what you have done when he is big

Compare to the rest, my problem is not that serious. But I am wondering, will I able to recover *sigh*..

My face is dry , use to have oily skin, but now can't even see "shine" on my face.

Use Fisogel A1 Hope I got the spelling correct. That one good but expensive. About 60 for 1 tube.

Sounds exactly like me :bsmilie:

Oh dear, sad to see your son suffering from a terrible disease.

I remember reading an article about another ezecma sufferer,it says that the parents resorted to making the child put on boxing gloves when she sleeps so she wont scratch till the skin bleed.
Perhaps u could try this method.

Good luck, and hope your son wont suffer so much.

After last night, I was thinking of getting surgical gloves but I am not sure whether it is breathable. But it definitely was one solution I was thinking of. Terribly tired now.

There is another TCM in Chinatown which i accidentally found out from my friend yesterday during a friendly chat. I believe this is the one my father was talking abt. His charges are very cheap and reputation is also very good. He has clinics in Singapore and London. Will find out details and post it here in this thread.

My friend whose son was suffering from constant coughing with thick phlegm. Will wake up constantly at night with cold sweat due to cough. Has been rushing around specialists and various medications but to no avail. Got recommended by a friend and was healed after 3 days.

Hi Ihsan,
Can you give me the contact for the TCM in chinatown, my 8 month old boy is coughing for over 1 month due to persistent running nose and phlegm, got admitted to KK twice to clear nose, but he still cannot recovered. The first time he got admitted, it has developed into bronchrolistis and 2nd time he develop to pneumonia. He is taking antobotic now with other phelgm and nose medication. I want to switch him to TCM as I really think western medicine is not doing him any good. He is still very young, so I dont want him to be harm by all the western medicine.

So sad to hear your son condition, but please keep yourself positive and uphold your sons. Stay strong bro!! You can fight it!! Your son needs you..........

The TCM is Dr Feng. His clinic number is 65385586. You need to call whether he is around.

For your information, when a child is asthmatic, the chances of having eczema is relatively high. Hopefully, your child can be cured of his asthma fast.
