#72 Across the bank of Varanasi.

#73 narrow alley of varanasi, even at the top....

p.s. there is a little vertical tilt but didn't correct it as not compositionally obvious.

#74 the boatmen who ferried us across the river to the opposite bank of varanasi to and fro. on the way back, he ferried us together with a local kid back to varanasi. subsequently he asked for more money, saying that is for the tax for going onto the opposite bank who belongs to the father of that kid, and if we dun believe, we can pay the money directly to that kid. luckily binbeto managed to laugh it off with him that he's the father of that kid... and well, of cos we didn't pay that "tax" and to date, i can't find anywhere that documents of such "regulation".

color is poor and soft as it is relatively dark at that time when we are returning, a little post sunset.

#75 backyard of taj mahal. as described before, it is a location that is out of sight of the usual tourist with only a few explorers here, and hence filled with garbages and stinking water. apart from the garbage, i actually found a number of murals and figurines, probably for worshipping.

in order to get what i envisioned, i decided to prone on the rubbish on the ground to get the vantage of both these figurines and the background taj in view. that is quite a sacrifice different from just laying down on soil or in public views. the results is considered ok only, not spectacular.

i did a few trial of depth of field, and still prefer the below. my friends all sort of prefer more dof to get taj more recognisable, but i like the narrow dof and conceptual outline of taj with a high key effect.

a friend who said she like my people shot, so dedicated another one for her.

girl at varanasi. it is easy to feel sorry when one see the shabbily dressed children that is not too young to be ignorant and not too mature enough to start working. but it is a quick snap, and i can't recall whether she is one of those selling those little candles to be floated on water. she is holding something but may not be what i'm talking about. the vertical original is disrupted by poorly timed composition and the partial overlap of the man in red behind the thing she holds. a horizontal crop works better, i think.

i have the impression that many if not most indians speak some english. apart from the colonial past, their bollywood movies seem to have some sentences in english mixed in 1/5 to 1/10 of the time of the conversation. well, i can be wrong of cos. but generally this is the language of the trade - tourism. some may specialise in korean and japanese too.

Yep thats quite correct ..

did u happen to click teh evening prayer "Aarti" at River Ganga on the Ghat's ..very nice event to capture ..i'm sure you would have some of them aswell to share.

by the way i happen to go thru your newbie writeup...they are quite nice :) like ur snaps :)

cheers Keep it up.
