cows, dogs and many other animals roam the street like man do. i use my hand to block the tonal difference and also to act as a frame. but such novelty can't be used twice, or maybe it is just a bad idea.

boat ride before sunrise at Kumbh Mela celebration. There is simply no way of capturing the grandness of the number of people there, unless we got an aerial view. this is as wide as my lens can capture from a distance before we lost the details in size.

Nice colors in #69. Love the wideangle too :bsmilie:

Just being a nitpick. It would've been good if you could've gone down lower and included the corner of the water tank as well.

yah, but the angle is still very far down.

as i want to keep the proportion for the sky, so my angle can only be as wide or wider. i not only need to stand far and also need to be able to stand higher to maintain the angle. given the limited choice of positioning, i opted for the sky and frame off the corner.

bathing in the cold winter, some families brought their children here and the kids are always cuddled and well-embraced to keep them warm.

correct color balance
skew to correct tilted horizon
noise reduction
correct skin tone of faces.

but i personally like more is the women helping the kid to dress up in the bokeh background. her yellow clothing help her to stand out by color contrast.

as for #72, due to poor visualisation at low angle, i have failed to give more space on the top. also would be better if my friend's face is shown more, but for privacy reasons as an excuse, maybe ok lah.

a lady i shot from the train when the train stop at ugrasenpur, hence the angle is a little higher than it should be. i personally like a shot that is a side profile with the eyes covered, but later thought it is a front profile would be better to show her beauty.

come, have a chai (tea). think they are mostly ginger tea, but i'm not sure. a little sweet but not too sweet unlike our local flavor. taken near meet ghat, on last day before leaving. sorry, i'm a bad example of not checking histogram. hence i didn't realise i blew the highlight on a rush, when i actually have a grad ND that i can filter out by right if i do plan thoughtfully. a close up on the clay cups taken separately at allahabad train station

just a different style, i guess. i can never do that kind of melancholy and metallic strength you have in your photos. and i haven't try a single model shot.... and i'm worried that nobody is giving me some serious criticisms, becos i know some of my pictures have issues to address, some of them may be what i have already noted, but some may be waht i did not realised until being pointed out.

chipmunks? ok, back to agra, there is this little animal that looks like chipmunk or squirrel, basically going up and down the tree like a lizard. as they are used to human being, as long as there is food for them, you can bait them into very close distance. i managed to catch close to 90 shots alone at this tree, with probably about more than 2/3 getting the correct focus. hence i chosen one out of so many, and decided to give a picture a warm feeling with high key effect. the leaves are slightly turned from lime green to a slightly saturated warm yellowish green. but there is a price to pay, as i zoom in tight, i didn't realised that this babe dashes very near my lens suddenly. i got a shock and accidentally abrade a little skin off my palm on the roughened tree bark that i anchor on for support.

#76 boats at varanasi packing very tightly

again i would grumble against the fused vermilion red in nikon D50's sensor. i always have this problem where such colors stick out like a sore thumb. i left the flag alone as it is dark red, but i have to desaturate the chair (on the big boat) significantly to stop it from sticking out too vibrant among a whole picture that is washed out in the low sunset

depending on situations and my mood, i do not think that a single approach should be done for all. there is a natural tendency for most to go for a contrasty picture, but i guess i would just prefer to leave this picture in its uncontrasty original form.

thinking retrospectively, i think it still might be good just to clone off that dark red flag. but i;m a bit tired now, so it will just be left there.

'melancholy', a medical term....you are humble~...
I am going to Botanic Garden tomorrow morning, addicted in landscape photography recently. Maybe too much architectural last time.... we shall meet a exchange our knowledge soon!

Waitting for your stunning photo!:)

zoossh,
this brings up an interesting debate that was ongoing in between all those flame wars in clubsnap few days back.

what and who to critique ? quite a few people in clubsnap are equipped with a good eye for photographic detail. many a time, they hold back their comments - either not to offend the owner of the photos or they just don't feel inclined to waste their precious time or maybe they even have some sort of insecurity feeling that by providing intelligent critique the photographer might improve (i might be totally wrong on this one, so there is no need to flame me). everyone is entitled to an opinion, and so do i.

one can only critique when one is equipped to critique - where one really finds some room for improvement. photogs like me are still beginners, we ourselves are learning and many a time we are overcome with awe at the photographs we see on clubsnap. maybe 5 years from now, we might think this quality of photographs are trash material. for now, i can't find too many faults with your photos, so other than posting comments of encouragement and showing your photos to other friends, i can't add much value.

sorry for the aside, let's get back to your interesting photos. it feels good when someone explains the technicalities of the shot, the thought process that went into that shot and what he/she feels is wrong with his/her own picture. gives others pointers to improve. thanks.
