a little girl in the shaded tent/eating place at mandhi / mandi. her thick nose bridge reminds me of some of those with the name "kaur", so maybe she is a punjabi. her face is shaded under 2 color temperature, one is the cast by the blue canvas where the sun shines through, the other is by reflected light from the gentle beige ground. summer is really summer, and it is really dry and scorching outside.... feeling like it is 35C or maybe my skin is really sunburnt. 40mins later after this, we are already at rothang la at 4000m, with snow everywhere....

another young monk at rizong. these boys are the best models around, they are less shy than the nuns we met and less naughty than some of the usual boys we come across everywhere (moves too fast to be captured, being too near). 50mm f/1.8 close-up from below, good daylight with slight overcast.

Leh town. can never get it right with landscape. here is a half-half composition. can't decide if should emphasise sky or ground cos neither seem to work without the other.

Was flash used in some of ur portrait? Noticed some faces require fill flash.. might work better.

nope at the mercy of natural lighting and have to optimise exposure settings to retain latitude on processing. weight is a major consideration as i'm carrying three lenses (1.3kg 80-200mm f/2.8, 600g 10-20mm, and the light 50mm), another thing is uneasiness with flash settings. i always end up bringing flash overseas but not bringing it out on the streets. but u r rite, will benefit from fill flash.

i'm not sure if my self-criticism is the reason getting no one to critique/share opinions on these pictures, but i'm just sharing the before/after thoughts i think is engaging. i'm sure there are things that is improvable, or probably useful for my future enlightenment (many comments are often understood only when the moment clicks on another shot). the below shot have suffered greatly from a retrospective mistake - judgement of depth of field. the pattern background serves no role of cluttering around the subject, but its texture is critical to tell the job nature of this roadside worker - his background being the slope of the mountain currently under roadworks made up of a raw surface of soil in clumps of variable sizes.

i am really not liking the distortion here. a little bit is fine, since you are after all using an ultra wide, but if you have the opportunity and time to change, why not switch to something which would render them less demon-like? :dunno:
not quite sure about the depth of field here, i thought it was a tad too shallow for my liking. certainly the focus is locked on nicely, but the lack of sharpness in his other facial features spoils this somewhat for me.

there is also prominent distortion due to going in too close - i.e. bloated faced syndrome. 50mm tends to be more suitable for head/shoulders or further. have you considered using liquify to correct?
i like everything about this one, except for the bluish cast. have you considered converting to black and white - understand that removal might turn out to a pain in the arse.

anyways, hope i don't turn out looking like i'm nitpicking. i've always enjoyed this series, since it is not a place i would be likely to visit in the near future, and a lot of the shots here are good. just picking those that i disagree with because there are too many here to go into extreme detail. and as a general comment - i really think you should forsake your personal preference for colored photos and consider black and white sometimes, especially when the colors are not in harmony, or there are problems with having color. there is a lot of potential here and there, and i would prefer conversions in many of them (like the ghandhi statue one).. :) maybe if you cannot decide but think that it is worth a conversion try, just post both versions, i'm sure no one will argue with it.
