I'm not sure about vitor's metal hood, but my collapsible rubber hood is the screw-on type.
seems like most of the peeps prefer a hoody over UV filter for DAL35

My best fren got the lens already. I till date, I'm still not poison by it. hahaha. Keep eating antibiotics or simply thinking of the lens I want so I can forget this lens even though the IQ is very good. *run away*

Hi vitor,
don't mind i ask a newbie question?
is it necessary to fit 35mm with a lens hood? and what's the pros of fitting 35mm with lens hood?
i'm considering of getting 35mm too. now wondering if i should get a lens hood as well
cheers!
Hi fengwei, could you take a landscape shot? Would like to see how it does taking in wide vistas.
because modern DSLRs, unlike film cameras, are not sensitive to UV light. UV filters are used mostly for protection nowadays and depending on who u speak to, its either a waste of money or a worthwhile investment to protect your lenses.
but the basic premise is that it is very questionable logic to put a cheap piece of glass in front of a well-engineered lens. they have their uses, but its impt to know what u're using them for instead of just lightening your wallet due to "accessory addiction syndrome".
i do use UV filters for some of my lenses, mainly because i find them easier to clean and i often get dew drops on my lens when i shoot bugs. but i will take them out at night cos UV filters just screws up night shots.
a lens hood, in addition to blocking out stray light which may affect image sharpness, is also good protection against knocks. that's why i would recommend the screw on metal ones for the DAL35 rather than the collapsible rubber ones.
Hi Detritus, does that mean if you are shooting with film, you should use UV filters instead of protectors like B+W MRC or Kenko/Hoya Pro 1D?
It's a beautiful photo...
Thank you, its definitely easier to take a nice photo with a beautiful subject.
