DA 35/2.4 - A Plastic Wonder! -- DAL35 vs FA35 vs DA35m vs A35 (many photos!)

Question....

If I have Tamron 17-50mm F2.8, is it still worth getting the DA 35f2.4? with a half f-stop difference, does it make a lot of difference on IQ and Bokeh?

I think Tamron will give you better bokeh if you have space to work at 50mm/f2.8

unfair comparison if you work the Tamron at 50mm. But I personally think you won't need the lens unless you find the Tamron lens too big for you to lug around.

Thanks evolutioner and machiavellian for your advice.

I should save the money for other lens.

I think it's up to individual . Not so right to compare a prime and a zoom lens here . Both serve different purpose . I got both .
For 17-50mm it's really a very versatile lens . Infact it should cover most of Yr shot with this fl. Beside it's 2.8 very useful even if low light condition . For event , it work great too.

Da 35 f2.4 was top iq with the given size and weight . If you want to travel light for the day , you wouldn't want to bring the Tammy out. Beside using prime will train on Yr composition more . Lastly , it's going so cheap now and I dun think need to consider much by just owning one to use .

I bought the tammy 1st then the da35 f2.4pm thinking to replace the tammy . But at the end of the day I just love them both and decided to keep both . As both serve me differently .

My experience is similar (in terms of the type of lenses being compared)

My DA*16-50 is the one lens I must have if I am going for a shoot, as the useful focal range allows me great flexibility in terms of composition. But if I have a bit more time and I see a scene where I can make full use of the strength of FA 31 (i.e. a closeup portrait shot with awesome foreground/background) I will definitely take it out of my bag and use it.

Also if I am just going out for a casual outing, the K-5 + FA 31 is a lot more compact, and discrete to use.

No good one. Moves out of f2.8 very early... once you are not at 17mm length it is won't be f2.8. Some got focusing issue too.

I'm using a 17-70 2.8-4.5 and I second that. It's not a constant 2.8 and I feel is basically just a better-than-your-kit-lens type of lens. I really like the Macro availability though.

Anyone done a comparison or have owned the Tamron 17-70, 17-50/F2.8 and DA* 16-50?
