Hi all D90 users,

This is a great forum thread! =)
just wanna ask is it true that a lens kit of a wider range like from 18-250 has poorer quality compared to using 2 lens which cover this range (i.e. 18-105 and then another lends fr 100 plus to 250)

Well, yes and no.

The wide range zoom will involve more elements/ lens group into the lens construction, so the greater loss in details as the light travels through all these elements (imagine each glass element act like a little filter removing minute details each).

But on the other hand, the high end 18-250 quality may yield less losses and have greater purity than a lower end 100-250.

In short, your statement will usually holds true if you are comparing lenses of the same level, and may not hold true if you're comparing those of different makes or standard levels.

Really appreciated. Will read up more of the differences between these 2 and make a decision. by the way, is the diffuser that bundles with the flash better than those paper diffuser sold seperately? which one can provide a better result? (i mean in term of giving better soft light)

The purpose of a diffuser is to soften the flash light so that you do not get a harsh shadow behind the subject. Using the same principle, a white plastic cup may do the job as well if it's the only thing you have at the moment

Hmm...paper diffusers ? I'm not familiar with them. Do you mean, bounce cards ? You point the flash upwards and place a piece of white card behind it so that some of the upward flash is reflected to the front by the card. Is this what you are referring to ?

If you are in a room with a not so high ceiling, bouncing the flash off the ceiling will illuminate the area behind the subject and the bounce card will give a slight twinkle in the subject's eyes

hey im also looking to get a tammy 17-50... well i'd say it depends first on ur budget because shake would not be much of an issue at 50mm

The ISO LO 1.0 is almost equivalent to ISO 100, then does the LO 0.3 and 0.7 signifies the approximate equivalent to ISO 30 and &) respectively? Asking because I had quite a nightmare on New Year's Day fireworks....:embrass:

hey i would think that since LO 1.0 is 1 stop down so LO 0.3 would be 0.3 stop down which would put it between ISO 100 and ISO 200 (maybe 160?). well the d90 sensor was recommended to be used from ISO 200 onwards...

L 0.3 ~ ISO 160
L 0.7 ~ ISO 125
L 1.0 ~ ISO 100

With the VC one, you can shoot at a slower shutter speed before any shake can be seen in the photo.

Slower shutter speed = the surrounding is brighter.

I had that Tamron 17-50mm previously. it was a very good lens if you are tight budget. (about 1/3 the price of the nikon 17-55mm lens) and is very light and handy.

But I had some problem when comes to focusing at night or dark area. It will takes very long to find its focus or even not being able to focus. Although this may applies to all lenses, but this tamron took more than enough time for your subject can get impatient.

Just my personal feeling abt this lens.
Does anyone else had the same problem?

Nope... not me.. do hunt.. at times.. but when I was using a 17-55 f 2.8 nikkor before, it hunts too .. so it is just the tecnique and understanding your lens characteristic and capabilities.. Will be ok once you get the hang of it..

SB900 is the replacement for SB800. SB800 has been discontinued.
