Guys,

Do you use the Active D lighting often? I usually disabled it, until i tried today. Its like overly exposed.
Setting is "normal"

Active D disables some of the controls like "contrast".. so I prefer to disable it most of the times.

idd, i made a mistake..i bought D90..and it should be 18-105mm instead. my bad

grats to u as well bro! which hospital u chose for delivery?

if there's sufficient lighting, there shouldnt b any flash from the cam right..? :dunno:

We chose Thomson hostpital.

If the flash pops up, it means there is not enough ambient light. Especially if you are using the kit lens indoors and you are on one of the auto modes. My suggestion is to get a cheap 50mm/1.8 lens and/or start to learn to use the A mode, and turn on Auto ISO.

I am all ready with my camera and my wife-approved purchase of 50mm/1.4.

Simple, D lens, you can change the aperture from the ring on the lens. G lens you can't as there isn't a ring on the lens - you turn the frontal knob (right side) of your D90 body to change the aperture of the lens. Most (not all) experienced photographers prefer D lens unless there isn't a choice of lenses... G lenses are usually the more recent (also more ex) releases as they incorporate the latest in lens-tech... Best? Depends on which lens.

Thanks. i got another qn to ask though. is 50mm/f1.8 gd enough for shots of sunrise/sunset? sorry for the problematic qns. thanks!

The kit lens is very good for sunrise/sunset. You need the wider end of the lens and you don't need an aperture of f/1.8. You would probably reduce it to like f/8 or f/11.

Ok thanks! Seriously i gain alot of info from reading jus this thread alone, seeing as i read from the 1st page. Haha. Thanks to all!

the d90's build is seriously very good. well to me at least, coming from d50. very happy with my purchase and i can't wait to bring it out for some action. just curious, is there any other faster way to switch between picture controls? and what are the settings you guys set for your picture controls?

They are all pretty much the same. You only need to choose between a digitally controlled one or a analogue controlled one.

is it cheaper? :X

why dun you consider the 35 f/1.8?

thanks for the advice :)
if you're on Auto Mode, flash will trigger automatically when the camera senses not enough light, doesnt matter if fluorescent light or natural light. setting it to P mode (or A, S, or M when you get more comfortable later) wont trigger the flash even in low light.

but u gotta be careful 'coz at low light u wont get a fast shutter speed with your kit lens. this will cause camera shake which will blur your image. like everyone else has said, get the fast 50 f1.8, or bump up your ISO if using your kit lens.

keep shooting, experiment with your camera's settings, and read up on forums to prepare yourself for D(delivery)-Day ;)

ohh okay...boy or ger? :)

wah so gd...ytd i asked my FC...budget not approved :(

Wowz! CFO approved 50mm f/1.4?? That's great! I'm assuming you're going for the D model right? She has made the right decision - more power to your BB and Wifey photos!

There is ONE other way to get your f/1.8...... And that is to sell your 18-105mm (B & S) - instant finance. THIS is provided that you REALLY want portrait shots badly and forgo the zooming abilities of the 18-105. (Frankly, 18-105 is a so-so lens overall, not bad but not too great either - google a review of this lens). However, be prepared that selling your lens will take time and won't be easy (as it is a very common lens).

Otherwise, live with it and learn to try to use your ISO to cope with the darkness.

Made in Thailand. And it still holds up as one of the BEST DSLRs in its category!

Word of advice, be careful how you pose that question in the Nikon forum (particularly in the D90 thread) as it is very sensitive and it will only make one who posed the question to look bad... :nono: Ok? ;)

Most of us already know that it is a M-I-T body long before we even decided to go for it, that's because its reputation precedes it.

Yeah, it's sensitive to some.

For me, it was becoz of my Tomyum car that gave me the full confidence of this Tomyum-kon. :bsmilie:

what are the settings for your picture controls?

Just a quick question, do you find your D90 pix to be a little soft?

She approved it long ago, and I already bought it long ago. And yes, I got the D version. Has been using it, and loving it! And since then, she has also approved another 35/1.8 and a used cheapo Ai 85/2.

I am considering a Tokina 50-135/2.8 but I doubt she'll nod to that. But she has already nodded to a Ai/Ais 105/2.5 which I haven't bought yet.

Comparing to entry level bodies like D40x, I do find it slightly softer out of the box. But you can increase sharpness in picture styles or in PP. Usually I find it easier to work with softer pictures and sharpen it up at the end of my PP workflow. It will turn out nicer that way, instead of having it too sharp before any PP. That is my preference. You might like it differently.

Well, another example is Hyundai cars. Hyundai cars made in China (Beijing) are way better and have less defects than the ones made in Korea. go figure.

In the end, it is about the manufacturing process. If the processes, and quality chain are managed and controlled well, it doesn't really matters where the product is actually manufactured.

I've had MIJ products fail faster than MIC or MIT products. :dunno:

Okie...., I am still trying to test and tweak on the sharpness on the camera for the optimum. Will try out what you've mention again, as the last time I tried sharpening in PP, my work was absolutely......disastrous....:embrass::bsmilie::bsmilie:
