Yeah, me too, I seldom use LV too, it was my friend that is playing with it and asking why it doesn't change, but Canon 550D does change...
if, for example, the camera is already at widest aperture in any of the automated modes, and you still decrease the ISO speed some more, naturally the image will become underexposed. That could explain the difference. It's not simply the camera make/model... :)

heyyy can i know whether the d90 when want to take pic can see from the lcd????

Sorry, my mistake, Tamron is 17-50. Im thinking of replacing 18-105 with Tamron 17-50, but afraid it will be heavier :)
Tamron doesn't make a 17-55.
If it's the Nikkor 17-55, then it's quite a lot heavier.

Lol it's pretty obvious that was a typo and he was referring to the tamron rather than nikkor

Btw, how to change the ISO settings when in LV mode? Can't find the settings...
:sweat::sweat: Suggest to you to read through your user manual. Seriously.

as 'noinimod' said (maybe he has telepathy with you, coz it was an OBVIOUS mistake), the tammy is heavier, though the difference should be quite small.

Yeah, I usually use the ISO button together with the scroll to set the ISO. I know we can set via the menu for LV, but when in LV itself, how do I adjust it?

do you know how to change the ISO speed when NOT in Live-View mode? ;)

i guess I need to test it out and let you know...

LV is not something I use much, if at all.

When in LV, I thought adjusting the ISO will be the same??

i've had it for sometime. rotting in my dry cab. was so into it for awhile and National Slavery took all my time and interest away..

oh ya, since im on it, what do u guys do to stop the popup flash from popping out, but have no flash unit as well ? increase/decrease exposure/ISO ?

Popup flash pops up? You're on auto mode right? If you want to take shots in dim conditions but with no flash, what you can do is to choose a slower shutter speed, bump up the ISO, or choose a bigger aperture.

For newbie outings, you got to keep track of them on your own. There's a sub forum for Gatherings and Outings. :)

be patient and learn slowly.
First learn some basics about photography, so when you read/hear terms like aperture, shutter speed, etc you won't be :dunno:

then play around with the camera whilst having the manual handy.

Do some self-experimentation. It's a digital camera, so you get INSTANT feedback.
Adjust something; take a shot; adjust something else; take another shot.
Try to keep all the other variables constant. A tripod helps greatly.
Once you review the results, you should be able to make some connection between settings and result.

After this, you should have at least some 'foundation', then when you join us for an outing, you won't be totally lost. We can guide you along, but only as far as we know. We are no experts.

* If you are in 'AUTO', or any of the 'Scene' modes, the camera makes many decisions for you. But if you are in one of the slightly more advanced modes (P, A, S, M), the pop-up flash will not pop-up anyhow unless you physically push the button. You're left a bit more on your own, basically...
