your ceiling? hmmm.. interesting.. what kind of ceiling are you referring to?

天花板 lah!!!! :bsmilie:

kriegs you could actually just tell him what to do!!! :bsmilie:

well, what kriegs is implying is tt you can meter the ceiling first before placing it on your tripod:)

Oh am I THAT bad? :bsmilie: I din wanna encourage spoon-feeding leh...

Frankly, D90 is not a perfect DSLR (it is not without short-comings, you might as well add no tilt LCD like D5000 or 60D), but overall - it's a DAMN fine cam!

hmmm... I see what you mean.

But then no choice mah. If you don't look through the viewfinder or see the rear LCD, how to compose? Just aim upwards and hantam shoot?
Metering alone is not enough wat.

thanks for the suggestions. you have any speedlight and tripod in your set up?

hi additional D90 user and i love it
right now im trying to convince my self to get the 28-300mm lense
most of the time im using my nikon 12-24mm for my walkabout lense and my 30mm for family used.

yup its sigma 30mm and i like this lense based on the price and quality of the images it produce.

by the way, just wanna point out that it's spelt "lens" (plural = lenses)...

cheers :)

yes... the good thing about D90 is the ability of the pop-up flash to be a AWL commander for my SB600.

Waiting for SB700 to be launched and my "itch" to get unbearable, then I'll add it to my arsenal
Then can have the 2 speedlights left and right with the pop-up adding some fill-in at the front, or else SB700 mounted and SB600 remote (on my freebie tripod).

hmm would there be any difference with getting a third party flash like Nissin?

anybody use the joby gorillapod with d90?? any reviews? :)

Nissin I think is compatible with Nikon's CLS.
You get TTL capability even when flash is used remotely. For nissin it's only the top end 866 model.

For nikon, the sb600 can be a remote slave, commanded by D90's pop-up.
I've not had extensive experience with this configuration, but I do believe the flash EV can be adjusted from the camera body.

No speedlight for me at the moment as I'm focusing on landscape shoots. As for tripods, I'd personally would recommend Sirui. ZCA's on Benro so he may suggest otherwise. Best you have a budget first and then go take a look at the poddies to see which one fits you best...

Edit: Don't set your tripod budget too low - it is one of the crucial equipments that you'll need in your arsenal. Sorry to assume you're looking for one, maybe you already have and just curious what we're using.

hi peeps wondering if anyone is using sigma's 50-150mm on their d90?

Benro is another brand? currently i have only heard of the Manfrotto and Sirui.

whats the reasonable budget for tripod in your opinion? :bsmilie:

Di622, from what I know, only has optical slave capability.
That is, if you try to use your Di622 (wireless) remotely as a slave, with the D90's pop-up as the commander, you need to set the flash exposure on the Di622 manually. There's no communication taking place between D90 and Di622 at all. The flash simply looks out for a bright burst of light and triggers itself at whatever output you set it to.

Wah tripod got MANY MANY brands leh.
Tripod head got even more brands and variations.
Just some names off the top of my head:
Tripod: Gitzo, Manfrotto, Benro, Sirui, Vanguard, Slik, Fancier, (errr......)
Tripod head: Gitzo, Manfrotto, Markins, Giottos, ReallyRightStuff, Acratech, PhotoClam, Sirui, Benro, Vanguard, Kangrinpoche, (errrr....)

Good tripods are sold separately from the heads. For still photography I think ballheads are the way to go, but they aren't the only options.
If you're not very tall (ie. between 1.6-1.7m) I would say that the Sirui T-1004 + the G10 head is a good value-for-money choice at <$200 (I think $180).
If you don't mind spending more, can get a carbon fiber tripod with thicker legs, and a 'branded' ballhead.

around $200 to $400... :) Benro, Sirui, Manfrottos are all good brands, just make sure it can handle your D90+heaviest lens you have well. That it won't just topple if strong wind blows or someone trips it over...

Secondly, vibration control for each tripod... maybe overated but you'll never know...

Lastly, that's just the tripod... don't forget for some tripod, you'll need to purchase the ballhead + camera adaptor plate separately...

i dont intent to use the speedlight as a slave, plan to mount it on the camera thats all you think ok? use as fill flash, give ambiance some lighting when its too dark, help in SS also.

besides ballheads there are other kind of heads? found out that T1005X and T1004X both selling for the same price, the main difference is that T1005X has 5 segments while T1004X only has 4 segments. what difference does it actually make?

Sirui's ballhead branded enough?

i suppose the adapter plates refers to the metal piece to be mounted on the bottom of the camera and subsequently mounted onto the tripod?

vibration control? those rubber padding at the adapter plates? G10 and G20 comes with the ballhead and adapter plate right?

Yups, most ballheads do not come with one... get one that uses arcas swiss type mounts. Those you can interchange with other brands so if you switch ballhead or plate, you still can use either.

Vibration control as in how the tripod legs disperse the vibrations - go to the stores for a demonstration. Not refering to the rubber pads on the plates.

Don't ask me and ZCA about ballheads coz we'll do the Markins dance on you... :bsmilie:

Besides ballheads, there are pan heads and gear heads I think.

You're right. The difference is in the number of segments. With the number of segments different, it means a difference in the length when kept, as well as the thickness of the last segment. Generally, thicker last segments = more stability.

Why bother about the branding? Can use, good to use, comfortable with it enough liao. Haha. Their G10 or G20 ballhead is more than enough for D90. Unless you test it with all the heaviest lenses and the battery grip.

And yes. Adapter plates are the metal plates, AKA face plates. Got a few ways of calling it ah. Haha.

Vibration control refers to the dampening ability of the tripod. How far the vibration travels, and how fast it is 'absorbed'. :)

Hope this helps, if anyone sees tt I'm wrong, kindly correct me.

errr.... no.
But it's extremely good value-for-money.
Sirui G10 and G20 are one of the few "arca-swiss style" ballheads that come included with the camera plate. Benro's KB-series and PhotoClam, Markins, etc don't.

* ok guys... as advised by mod, we should try to keep the discussions on this thread specifically to the D90 itself. Maybe compatibility with lenses/flash still all right, but tripod is going a bit off course already :)

Okay, to continue with this conversation about tripods...please haul your ar*se over to kopitiam, under the thread of DNPoisonous Clubhouse IV okayz? seeyal there!

Hi, got a question. Can we do photo stitches with D90? Is there some special settings/modes for this? Or do we have to do it using some computer-based software?

Thanks a lot.

you mean like some built-in panorama function?
As far as I know, D90 doesn't have such thing.

I would classify such functions as 'gimmicks', like the 'sweep panorama' function of some PnS cameras...
