u should b able to use a fx lense on a dx body, but not dx lense on fx body.
go ahead for the longer reach n when u upgrade to fx, u hv a 28-300 lense to use instead of changing ur whole arsenal.

correction bro, a DX lens can and will be able to use on an FX body, but your resolution will go down from 12MP to about 7MP (? somebody correct me if wrong) and the effective pixels being used will resemble a DX sensor. but on the question of can it be used, short answer is yes

so maybe it is wiser to get fx lens even for your dx body . . .

So in future, you can upgrade to a fx body without worrying of your lens.

hi guys I got my D90 around 3.5 weeks ago! !

Nice to meet you all , still a noob. Was recommended by a friend to start on this model since its cool to learn from it. =)

see ya ! ( erm don't mind my nick name =X I can't think of any proper one . )

After 3.5 week then you join us. SLOW...Nevertheless weclome:bsmilie:

O yes, that my intention too. That why I bought it.

aiya . . . should endure for a few more weeks for D7000 to appear and D90's price will drop . . . (since you endure for 3.5 weeks already) :bsmilie:

Nevertheless, welcome you to the D90 Club too. ;)

D7000 and D90 still different animals, though I suspect D7000 will cause the demise of D90 range (ie there may not be a D90 successor).

Seriously regardless of the fact that D7000 is about to hit our shores, the D90 is still a damn capable camera. It will still be a damn capable camera in 2 year's time :)

I got cheap screen protectors off eBay for my D90. Definitely not as tough as the GGS ones. I would hate to see the result of an impact like DD123's bro had with his GGS-protected D90. So must take good care of mine. The protector just to reduce the severity of nicks and scratches, as well as sweat from my nose against the LCD.

resolution aside, there will b a dark round crop ard the pic due to the difference in sensor size.
when i say 'cannot', i'm referrin to this.

hmmm...am i rite?
not 100% sure, gettin old....

any idea if its possible to bring out the electronic analog exposure display/exposure compensation bar in the viewfinder/shooting information display to the top control LCD panel?

I don't think so. But to the LCD screen, yes. All you have to do is to press the 'info' button near the bottom right corner of the LCD screen. Your shutter speed, aperture, EV and other settings will be shown there

wah sian. seems that canon ones can right?

thanks anyway..

If you mount a DX lens on an FX body, by default the body will switch to DX mode.
That is, it uses the photosites that occupy the size of a DX sensor. Effectively the remaining photosites are not used, thus you get a reduction of resolution.
For D700/D3s, DX mode gives approx 5MP.
For D3X will be higher. Don't know the exact number.
You will NOT get the vignette in DX mode. Pasay is correct to say that it works as though everything is normal. Just your field of view becomes like a DX camera.

Why is it useful to see the metering value on the top LCD?

It's only useful when you're actually composing. If you're looking at the top LCD, chances are the camera is pointing somewhere else (eg the sky) and giving you a different value anyway.

if i'm taking a shot of the ceiling with the camera mounted on the tripod, you don't expect me to go beneath the camera to look at the viewfinder or shooting information display right.. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

or rather, the more "logical way" is to look at the top control LCD panel.. :p

Is your camera glued to the tripod? If not, you know what to do right? :p

天花板 lah!!!! :bsmilie:

kriegs you could actually just tell him what to do!!! :bsmilie:

well, what kriegs is implying is tt you can meter the ceiling first before placing it on your tripod:)

Oh am I THAT bad? :bsmilie: I din wanna encourage spoon-feeding leh...

Frankly, D90 is not a perfect DSLR (it is not without short-comings, you might as well add no tilt LCD like D5000 or 60D), but overall - it's a DAMN fine cam!

hmmm... I see what you mean.

But then no choice mah. If you don't look through the viewfinder or see the rear LCD, how to compose? Just aim upwards and hantam shoot?
Metering alone is not enough wat.
