i see..~ :)

the one that i have now..takes average of 7-8secs to recharge per flash

oh my goodness...
You see how fast I can fire with SB600, you'll want to throw your flash away.
Heck even my SB400 recycles much faster than that!

yeah man..initially i though it wasnt working..cause the battery contacts had some rust on it..so i threw away the manual when i was clearing the drawer..somehow i couldnt bear to throw the flash away..

so i tried to remove the rust, put batteries inside..and it resurrected from the dead! :bsmilie:

yeah most likely will get a new one to replace this..really mind-boggling..:thumbsd:

Your flash quite manual, so I dunno if it's too complicated to use :)
I have an old Sunpak one as well (relegated to storage) that I used with my dad's old Nikon FM before. Basically the dials/switches behind are for you to inform the flash unit what sort of settings you have on your camera, and hopefully it will control the output well enough.
Forget all your auto-exposure (P,A, S modes), i-TTL stuff, because this is pre- all that.

If I were you, seriously I'd relegate that flash to storage. Don't beat a dead horse. Technology has moved the goalposts. i-TTL is really a god-send for hobbyists like us who are quite 'blur' about flash photography and how to balance flash output with ambient lighting.

I second the suggestion of Nissin Di866 as a budget alternative to SB900.
But my #1 choice is a 2nd hand SB600 for general use. It's smaller (though less powerful), but still sufficient. I got mine for well under $300.

yeah BBB..

gotta wait for my yr-end B :sweatsm:

stop attempting to poison! then again nissin seems like a gd buy. Just curious why would you recommend Sb600 over the di866?
it has enough power for my needs, and it fits in my bag :D
I tried the Di866... I need a bag upgrade if I get that flash  or else a re-config resulting in loss of space for lenses.

1) SB600 2nd hand - about $250-$290
- sufficient power (for my needs)
- i-TTL is accurate
- It's a Nikon
- It's slightly smaller, so can fit in my camera bags

2) Di866 new - about $380-$400 (hardly find 2nd hand)
- more powerful (maybe too powerful? :) )
- i-TTL as well
- It's not a Nikon ;)
- It's larger... can't fit in both my camera bags the same way that my SB600 does

:D Doesn't sound much, but my bag can't close with the Di866 inside :)

haha i suppose thats a good enough reason for you to choose the SB600 over the Di866. If it cant fit into your bag there's no point to get it lol

As far as any newbies go, DD Electronics will always be in their queries - that's because they are among the first few search results with google whenever you type something in like "Cheap DSLRs in singapore" in the search box - well something like that. Prices are always tempting - and I've been tempted to go there in the beginning... However, as times goes by, sound reasonings paved the way and I ended up going to the known and recommended stores in Singapore (call it a peace of mind)... Hence, no experience with them, but good luck to you if you want to try.

if i'm not mistaken, they only have shop warranty for their camera bodies and lenses.

quote from their site:
"Warranty terms & conditions

All products DD Electronics Pte Ltd sells are brand new and come with warranty 12 months parts and labour except for batteries. If the item you have bought has a manufacturers fault during the first 30 days after purchase we will simply replace it.

As we are a direct importer or parallel importer the responsibility of the warranty belongs fairly with us however many products we do sell come with worldwide warranty provided by the manufacturer so where this worldwide warranty is provided, you can go to the manufacturer directly for service but with any item you need help with you can come directly to us ,we of course are very happy to help you."

Anyone can sweet talk us into anything...remember... that's just sweet talking... Sales talk to assure you that you can trust them.

The real experience is when you actually deal with them FACE to FACE and transaction actually happened... And by "them" I mean just ANY shop, not just DD Electronics...
