D90 get kit lens or just body?

If I didnt recall wrongly, the price difference bet the body and the body+kit is not much. Why not you get the bundle first? This way, you can have a range to play with and at the same time, familiarised with ur cam. After a few months, the link below might be of some help.

As for me, I got a D300 body 2nd hand and went to hunt for a 18-70mm. Nvr looked back since.

if u are a first time buyer my advice the 18-105mm kit lens is good. and since its gonna be ya one and only lens, i dun think u'd be detaching it often from the body.

for me, i started out with a d40x. played with the 18-55 non-vr. hand itchy bought a 18-70. then lagi itchy a 18-200. no doubt the 18-55 is a great kit lens but i always felt the 18-55 to be to plastic like a toy. the 18-200 has the best zoom range but after studying my exif, my shooting style rarely expanded to the 100+mm. so my all time favourite is the 18-70. metal mount and has got a solid feeling.

i bought the d90 body only. and the 3 lens i own:-
50mm/f1.8 - good bokeh for portrait photos
18-70mm - my walk about lens
17-55/f2.8 - low light shooting and event/wedding shoots

Hi Isisaxon,

Sorry just saw your reply. You mean I should get the d90 kits instead of only the body? and what is "DX crop body"?. 28mm on DX will only give you an angle of view like a 42mm on 135 format. Argh!! I am planning to get the d90 tomorrow but now should I get body only or the kits set??

Btw, called Lords today the Saleslady quoted me d90 body for S$1380/= (with 4GB card) after GST. And the d90 kits set their new stock come in is not with 18mm-105mm VR. It come with 18mm - 55mm lens or 56mm - 200mm lens and she also mentioned that there will also the same in the SITEX for the kits set. :what:

Wonder any owners here or anyone played with D90 before? Can someone please advise? Thanks.

Also wondering if it's worth it to get D90 now... or wait for a little while?

don't buy if you need to ask these questions.

Get the kit. However, I read from other threads that there's no more kit with the 18-105VR lens.... :dunno:

For amateur use, plastic mount is never an issue. Consider it as a disposible lens, that last like say 3years of use or so. Just think how many times do an average amateur change lens in a year? Remember, Nikon gives you a year warranty.

Compare this with a photojournalist who chase after politicians, celebs and so forth each and every day, changing lens a number of times a day.

BTW, have anyone heard of someone broke a plastic mount lens before here in CS or for that matter, in any other forums?

And there are other more flimsy and fragile and vulnerably parts in the lens, but the lens mount isn't that flimsy in my engineering judgement.

hmmmm, interesting to note that the D90 is no longer sold as a kit with the 18-105VR lens?
what a pity...
you don't know what is a DX crop body?
Well, the D90 has a sensor which is approximately 24mm x 16mm. This is smaller than the size of 35mm film, and this size (24x16) is commonly referred to as DX. 35mm film size is now more commonly known as FX, or sometimes people refer to it as 'full-frame'.

DX cameras:
D40, D50, D60, D70, D80, D90, D200, D300 (there are many more. I'm just including the more recent ones)

FX cameras:
D700, D3

What the DX sensor captures is a fraction of the image produced by the lens.
Imagine walking around with a piece of cardboard in front of your eyes, with a rectangular cut-out. The larger the cut-out 'window', the more you see.
Therefore with a DX body and a 28mm lens, you see only the central area, much like you would if a 42mm lens was mounted on an FX body.

Hope I haven't confused you too much.

Try your best to get the D90 kit with 18-105VR lens, but best to avoid buying at SITEX.
If die-die don't have the kit lens, get body only, and search for 18-70 (D70's kit lens) either new or 2nd hand.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are thinking of the same thing... Just check out our B&S segment... I see a lot of 1 day old, 1 week old 18-105mm VR on sale.

hi dafansu,

no~the bag is original from Nikon ^ ^ very nice look like a briefcase/notebook bag. Today newspaper got advertised.

Well, I'll keep the lens 18mm - 55mm, because I dont have any lens with a 18mm.

anybody know the difference between lowepro bag (with nikon at the bottom right )and nikon bag

Hi all,

i am a newbie on DSLRs, and was planing to get the D90, however, i am a little confused here with everything said, perhaps you guys can advise me.

Would the camera be better with the 18-55mm lens or the original 55-105mm lens?

Also, with the 18-55mm, Nikon is allowing us to purchase the 55-200mm lens for additional $299 which makes the whole set cost $2087, whilst Audio house is selling the 55-105mm set for $1988.

Thanks in advance for any advise given.
