D810 - OFFICIAL THREAD

went down to Lucky Plaza yesterday.
One shop on level 2, 'T2' selling for 3610
They claim its not a grey set. But don't know how true.

Before gst?

Sigma 50mm better than nikon 50mm? 1.4? How much?

The Sigma 50 Art is better in terms of quality/sharpness/wide open performance for sure.

Sadly, it is heavier, bulkier and a lot more expensive (Around SGD1K for new Sigma 50 Art)

hows the nikon 50mm f1.4G on the D810??... read online the major complains is with its AF speed....
having a D4S AF module does it helps to focus faster (single and continuous/low light) as compared to it on a D610/DF/D800E??..

As to what I've read, with Expeed4,focusing is better or tad faster to compare to D800.

I only briefly tried the 50/1.4g on the D810. Not sure what the complains is. It focuses fine. Though if you really want to max out the D810, the Sigma 50art is the way to go...

The focusing speed is definitely faster and (more importantly) more accurate then the d610/df.. didn't have an 800e to compare, but reviews have said its faster.

I took this shot using the Nikon D810 + Tamron 150-600mm @ 600mm at night across the reverse bungee thingy at Clark Quay at Central side. This was tracked handheld and the camera managed to get a good AF lock on the subject quite easily. Shot ISO 12800, f/6.3 at 1/500s with Lens VC on using AFS-C with focus priority. I would say the AF performance improvement is a lot more obvious in low light scenes.

SOOC JPEG image cropped 50% (I couldn't frame it perfectly but did catch it within the frame) and resized to fit nicely in CS.

Posted a little review with sample pictures

The thermal noise issue IMHO is merely a small issue that as pointed out by many in other forums, is solved by a quick firmware upgrade...

I'm enjoying mine.... The lure is too strong for me....

What is the issue? Fix is already available. Send it it and it will be fixed.

Presume you also like me - love it deep deep :-)
Anyhow, the thermal noise is not exclusive to D810....Seems like D800/e also have this issue...
Just enjoy your toy bro... It's an amazing camera and I think I wld stick to it for a long while....now kena bitten by lenses bugs :-)

Camera from other big manufacture also have issue when first time released. No camera is perfect.
Canon 5D Mark III is known with light leak issue.
Sony A7r is well known with camera vibration during shutter release.
Nikon D810 also have issue, thermal noise. It is good that Nikon have found the fix.

Only Nikon Df is the KING, no issue since first released.

... Im waiting ... ;)

More images on the way,
BTW I did not notice any issues with the set that I used, even with 30 sec exposures
And I still love my D800, the dynamic range and image quality that you get from good camera techniques is just amazing
the D810 just made it easier to do what the D800/E can already do with around 1 stop of high ISO caperbility
ISO 64, less vibration from mirror slap and quieter shutter, not forgetting all the video enhancements.

But I'll keep my D800 and wait for photokina which is just around the corner.
CS will be there to check out all the new toys (not me)
