D800 User Thread II

1.5 years on, I am still using the D800.

Hanging in there (not knowing if I wld jump ship) but it has been a great workhorse.

If I had a chance, I wld get the E. Didnt get at the start because I had a Hasselblad then. Still the D800 works wonderfully. It's as close as a Hasselblad as a 35 mm can get.

I like the D610/600 too for its size. I wished the D800 to be smaller.

I have examined the A7r but don't think it matches in terms of IQ. Having said these, D800 n all it's lenses can be too heavy to travel with. Haha...

Tempted to write a review on this workhorse. Haha...

I am so glad there is a thread on the D800. I just read through the thread from Part 1. Wow. There are many very nice images posted, I feel so small when admiring those images. I am seriously considering getting a D800E. Still thinking VERY hard. :)

Buy Buy Buy. Wont regret :)

I got the D800 on Aug 2012...However it seems like I have used this cam for many years..haha..

I use it to do events assignment. But I will mount it with the DX 17-55. I get a smaller res yet still able to obtain the best of D800 sensor.

I also use it to do portraits. When shot in focus, the high res allows for closer up crop. Skin tone is good.

DR , what can I say? Landscape, city scape lover, this cam is a must have.

My only foul cry is the AF...it isn't quite accurate at times.

You shoot a lot of models...with 36MP...u can zoom in to see the pores of their skin..haha...

Don't think just buy...now very cheap liao compared to ppl spending 5k++ for the cam when it was first announced.

Out of stock for months some more...

Hello D800 users,

No no no..I'm sellin D800 to buy D5300...trade is welcome too :p

D800 with all the G lenses is getting a bit too heavy for me, especially on travels (Dont be mistaken. Camera is not that heavy. Just that i am growing old). Too heart pain to sell away. And cannot accept another lower res/ DR camera. So keep for studio use! :bsmilie:

lucky i have a 2nd camera to use if not, those people who won 10th-1st price in lucky draw will not have a photo. haiz..

Nikon has claimed to have tested 200,000 shutter count. So dead at 170,000, will i get a free replacement? lol. i know its impossible. just asking...

 Do not throw away. Give it to me
Then I will bring it to NSC to replace the shutter mechanism.

Hi all,

Just got my d800 recently. Would like to seek some clarification from the more experienced D800 users here.

With regards to raw, there is 12/14bit.

Additionally there is lossless compressed, compressed and uncompressed.

File size for 12bit, compressed is the smallest at about 29mb. But is there any significant degradation in image quality?

The file size difference is quite significant, as i can store 708 12b/compressed images vs 400 14b/losslesss compressed.

Do share your inputs :) Thanks all
