Just received a call from Nikon Service Centre, they said is good to leave your D800 and lens for them to calibrate.
They said normally within a week.
Sigh this it what discourage me to send over, should do it on the spot.
I love my camD800 + 70-200mm.
See for hi-res version to see her eyes: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8281/7525675074_9c10460bc5_o.jpg

anyone here has the new 24-120 F4 VR combo with the d800? how does it perform?
a week seems to be long. but from experience(cleaning job), they told me a that it will take a week but when i came, i was asked to stay and got it after an hour. but for calibration, although they are saying a week, maybe it will be less. i believe they will always do their best to exceed our expectations.

Your lens is using screw drive? How come can't auto focusing?
Or internal PCB cable was failure.

If your AF 50mm f/1.8 or 1.4"D" yes is this work as well for AF screw drive.
