anyone tried using a 45MB/s SD cards? any problems?
i am thinking of going for capacity over speed

with a similar speed CF card

maybe 32GB SD/ 8GB CF
Raw files in the SD card and Jpeg files in the CF card

what do you think?

I have 30, 45, 60 MB/s. First two SD, third one CF. I assign video purely to CF.

All of the above no problem for all of my situations which do not include lots of burst photography.

Will join the club this Fri..... hope the set still there for collection come Friday.
Funny thing was that I sold my stuff to fund upgrade to 5Dmk3... then I tot I shud chk out the competition...
what can I say, the dark forces are too great a temptation... Btw, have started my photography interest with Nikon during the film era and jump ship to Canon when switching to digital...
so this is somewhat a "homecoming"... hahaha

Would advice you to get 32GB cards if you intend to shoot more than 400 shots per session. Uncompressed RAW files on 32GB cards will show 399 shots. Although I did achieve more than 600 shots in that single 32GB card.

The calculation for 'free space' is based on an estimated file size. 32GB / 80MB = 399.

Since not all pictures actually do take up 80MB, you can take a shot and the counter still remains as 399.

Remaining space /80 will be the estimated amount of shots left on the card. Thus >600 on a 32GB is still possible at approximately 53MB a file.

I routinely get around 760 shots. Based on Lossless compressed 14 bit RAW.

Clubsnappers,

Just a short note to let you all know that Nikon Singapore has the tools to fix the focus issue (oof) that affects the far left AF point(s) that may arise on some D800/E bodies. According to the technician, it was a software calibration. Just got mine back yesterday and it has been calibrated. Did AF fine tuning on my AFS 24mm f1.4G before doing some test. Tested with Siemens Star Chart on far left, centre and far right using TTL (PDAF) focusing vs Live View. They all look similar now. Prior to this, the left TTL focus was oof vs Live View focus. If possible, test with AFS 24mm f1.4 if you have or can get hold of one.

Do submit the TTL vs Live View focus samples to illustrate the "issue" to Nikon Sg - it helps... FYI in case your body is affected. Have a good weekend.

Congrats where u got them? :)

Wow great news. I just tested my D800 with my 50 mm 1.4G and 28mm 1.8 G with the Siemens chart. It was terrible. cannot get a good focus. that is why most of my images are OOF. Will go down to NSC next week to have it corrected. By the way, how long does it take for them to address the issue? Thanks

Should be effect the 1st batch on focusing issue and now already sold as how many pieces in the world still happening on the OOF?

Sorry to know that you have oof issue. That's a relief now since there's a fix. Estimated collection was 2 weeks when I send in. I was all ready to wait for 2 weeks, let Nikon take their own sweet time to fix the issue. However, I got it back in 3 days after I got a call from Nikon  That was a fantastic turnaround on Nikon's part.

Just finish af fine tuning all my other lenses... now it is only out by a bit hovering around +/- 3 with 2 lenses at "0" and only 1 lens +5. Prior to this, all lenses are in the -ve zone around -10 to -15! Did some random test shots with various focus points and different lenses - tack sharp. I am happy now :)

Mine 8001XXX affected, I heard some 8002XXX batch units affected. Apparently more rampant on D800 than D800E. Not sure what is the latest serials now. I think it is good to do a simple test to verify since a fix a available - nothing to loose really :)
