two days with this camera... can say that to get a very very good picture.. really need faster shutter than before. My work flow timing now really increase by 3-4 times compared to previous D90 files. But once in, the adjustments and everything else is still smooth.

Noise is surprisingly well controlled for a 36mpx. And agressive Noise reduction applied the details are still there! ISO 6400 no problems at all if you are not viewing it at 100%.

This camera in Good light is super!! Images are crisp and sharp.. avail light need to improve on technique.. no chance to bring it out yet, now thinking should I bring it to Sydney next week.

Definately must bring. Sure regret if you don't.

Its somewhere in the settings. I just scrolled around and found it. Can set to 1/250s. Sorry don't have exact directions coz don't have the cam with me now but you should be able to find it by scrolling around or from the manual.

Hi, the Flash Shutter Speed cannot set, the maximum only allow for 1/60s :(

cause my 180mm Prime if the shutter less than 1/60s will be slightly blur and may handle it as well.

I use popup flash all the time and use 1/250s for CLS. No issues leh.

ya tried already both of my cam in the VF still showing at 1/60s only. even used on Flash or Pop up Flash.

i used A mode

Visually looks quite ok...

I agree with JacePhoto. Visually looks quite sharp, but whether it is sharper than other Nikon lenses, I'm not sure. Haven't done side-by-side comparison under exact same conditions. Ken Rockwell thinks it's very sharp. But here's an image taken with the 16-35mm handheld at ISO100, 1/200s at f/7.1 for you to see for yourself.

The 100% crop (area cropped highlighted in red box in original image)

looks good, thanks

i usually shoot in M mode during flash photography

There's another value that matters with flash and shutter speed, is that option the ones that limit u?

Yaloh can't set above 1/60s for my shutter speed.

Are you using First or 2nd curtain ?

Sorry what u mean in 1st or 2nd curtain?

Maybe too heavy with my Prime 180mm f2.8 + SB-900 and felt my shake holding it.

Even using flash at 1/60s also can't help much for using aperture f2.8.

Try using manual mode, then auto ISO.

Yap that only the way go :(

Flash shutter speed is just on menu below the flash sync speed.

as far as I know U cannot get more than 1/60. As mentioned the way is to either

1) M mode
2) Use Auto ISO.. set the min shutter speed to Auto.. and use one notch towards faster.. you should get a higher shutter when using flash

Ya thank you so much, if I didn't used the tele lens in night time should be not a problem.

Maybe got budget then just get the 70-200 VR version

Hope Nikon will release the AF-S 200mm f2.8 VR :)

200mm F/2.8 won't be much cheaper than F/2. Maybe F/4?

For those you are on the fence on whether D800 can be used for birding.. here are some.. but note this was taken in a hurry using sigma 150-500mm.. and forgot to turn on OS and also its around 8am in the morning
