D80 Setup

I would suggest get the Tamron 17-50. The F2.8 is crucial. WIth VR, yes you can shoot with a stabiliser, but you won't get speed. When shooting action, for example a kid jumping. The F2.8 can shoot at a faster shutter. with VR at F5.6, maybe not that fast.

Hi "p,

my humble setup is as follows

Kit 18-135mm
Prime 50mm f1.8
SIGMA 28-70mm f2.8

Started D80 with the 18-135kit lens, then bought a sigma 10-20. After a while bought a 50F1.8. Then bought the tamron 17-50F2.8. After I got the tamron, the kit lens was never used again. Just recently got a 70-200VR F2.8 :bsmilie:

Lens for my D80:
1. Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX Zoom (Kit) - Using it most of the time.
2. Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D AF
3. Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR Zoom - Used 2 times only, seldom use. Sigh!
4. Tamron SP AF DI 90mm f/2.8 Macro
5. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM - Just bought it yesterday (2nd hand) to replace my 50mm

My lens as follows:

Sigma 28-70 f2.8 EX DG : for use at home without flash, and also portraits, stays on my camera most of the time.
Nikkor 18-135 kit lens: for light weight moving around shots, only on sunny days.
Sigma 18-200 f3.5-6.3 OS HSM: new lens, had not been on my camera much just yet.

Woa this thread still alive.

I change my previous input last yr :

Gave away my 18-200mm. So my favorite traveling setup are my 12-24mm/4, 70-200VR and my two PC lenses

Wah gave away! So rich! Anyway, it seems that the tamron 17-50 has good reviews. I'm actually thinking of getting that for my next lens. :)

Hey bovine

Would you prefer the tamron 17-50 or the tokina 16-50?

Pros of Tokina
- 1mm more
- Built is better

Cons of Tokina
- High CA

started with 18-135 kit.....then changed to 18-200VR with 50 f1.4, 17-55 f2.8 and 12-24 f4.

I like your tilt-shift shots. Would love to get my hands on a PC lens sometime in the future.

Right now my setup: Sigma 10-20, Tamron 17-50, Nikkor 50

hahah they are my babies leh. i saw some of ur work. I am sure hands on u can come up with something real neat with them ;)

Maybe can try post on BnS. I am sure there are people who ran out of steam with this bulky lens. 24mm PC is abit newer, might not be easy to get second hand . If u r keen i have seen are some ppl selling the 85mm PC ( the non PC-E verison overseas forum at much better prices after shipping ) in fredmiranda
