its just me - but i dun buy cameras from harvey norman, courts or best denki cos i'm paying full retail price. as for the extended warranty... well, never really saw the need for them anyway. u can get the camera cheaper by a few hundreds (which can be invested in other equipment) if u purchase at shops like cathay.
colt30sp - since u are starting out, my question is do u have an experience in photography outside PnS (point-&-shoot) cameras? DSLRs are a totally different kettle of fish. if, for example, u are looking for brilliant pics straight out of a DSLR, you might be sadly mistaken (unlike a PnS which is designed to do so). most, if not all, DSLR pics need some form of post-processing in Photoshop (eg. sharpening..etc). here in CS, we have many sob stories from newbies who, having no idea watsoever they are getting into, cry and moan abt DSLRs giving them bad pics cos they were overwhelmed by the functions of DSLRs when, if fact, they were under-whelmed by a lack of knowledge.
case to note - both in nikon and canon sub-threads, we got well-documented cases of newbies complaining how come they cannot compose their pics via the LCD screen of their spanking new DSLR. also, some have asked why their DSLRs cannot take movies. and, no. i'm not kidding.
so, instead of buying either cams, i suggest u ask any of ur DSLR-using frens or colleagues to try out a DSLR (doesn't matter the brand). ask urself wat will u be shooting MOST OFTEN, not HOPE to shoot most often. perhaps then, u will come to a better understanding or decision as to which kind of camera is suitable for ur shooting needs? no point buying a DSLR, and end up using P-mode (which, btw, doesn't mean Professional-mode) all the time.
