Hi,
I'm planning to get D7000 and eying at AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens. But seems like the lens price makes me over budget so any recommendation for similar coverage?

As for my shooting style, I took mostly scenery and some portrait with focal length between 20 to 70mm on DX format. My budget is not more than $2500 for both body and lens and keen to get fixed aperture lens.

Thanks in advance

Same lens that I am eyeing too but as you said it cost a bomb for this gd lens...I heard abt Sigma 17-50mm which they review as alternative to nikon AF-S DX 17-55mm f2.8g..

I hope anyone can give more details regarding this sigma lens...thks

Hmm, currently I'm used more on 28mm & 50mm f/1.8G in my both body.
The rest ah.. Just sleep at dry cabinet and some changed owner already :)

My highly recommend on zoom tamron 17-50 VC
& prime on 28mm & 50mm f/1.8G that's great lens.

You can try to search the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS. It has some very good reviews on the usual review website such as lenstip, photozone... it's 1039 sgd with GST in SLRR in funan... it suits your budget.

You can visit this website (Flickr) and see sample photos taken with D7000 and this Sigma:

Or some discussion here about this combo:

Rain5533's suggestions 24-70mm f2.8 is the best of course, but it comes with a high price tag. Let us know which one you paired with D7K. Goodluck.

Not lah that Nikon 24-70 G I has no idea to use up & the only chance for my friend wedding day and cover some.

In my opinion on the 18-70mm G DX with 28mm f/1.8G has ready fulfill me, even when to FX body still using as optimum :)

Ohhh yes...I grab 17-50 VC tamron from JB Angsana yesterday after comparing prices and finally I spend at Johan..Thks rain5533

Another n00b question :)

Which lens should I pair with D7k for portraits shoots? AF-S 85mm f/1.8G or any other recommendation?

Yesterday my friend help me check price for D7k in JB and its RM 2750 (~ S$1100). I'm thinking of buying from M'sia as I frequently fly to KL and I can save some $$$ for lens

Hi, Supercool

In the DX body, I would prefer you get 50mm f1.8G good then enough, if when to 85mm the background bokeh look like wired.
Specially the background at the tree.

Buy it in Malaysia then. Good price anyway.

As for the lens, I like the 85mm perspective. The usual suspects are 50mm, 85mm and 105mm on DX. Some use 135mm on DX too.

Hi All,

Should I get Sigma AF 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM OS or AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR to pair with D7k as everyday walkabout lens?

Some said 16-85mm IQ is much better than 17-50 and only thing good about Sigma is that of constant f2.8. I'm really confuse now :(

Hi supercool, I think whichever you choose, you will be a winner. 16-85mm obviously have longer reach, wider at the other end, cheaper and I think lighter too, and it's Nikon. The other one has f2.8mm. Me I went to sigma because of f2.8. Sigma's sharpness is acceptable to me. Thanks.

Buy 2nd hand n if not satisfy with the IQ, then sell it out...hahaha

OK, I decided to get D7k with AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR by this weekend :D

After that my next buy will be either AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G or AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G in a few months later ;p
