Driver problem. Try looking for a driver? Windows update?

You mean download the software independently? Btw my USB ports have problems. One of them won't work when the other is working so I connect my mouse and keyboard via a USB hub. It's also how I connect my DSLR

Hmm. That may be the problem? Can't recognize device over the hub. Try connecting directly n see if it works? If it does, then sadly, u won't be able to connect via the hub. Duno how u can work ard that Liao.

Yeah I tried that too, but oh well

Usually this error means that Windows cannot find a driver, which is odd since the D7000 is recognized as a standard drive (like a thumb drive). Could be some wonky driver was assigned or something.

Try hooking it up, then looking in the Device Manager for the D7000, and delete the device. Then disconnect the D7k, reboot and reconnect. This forces Windows to reinstall all the drivers again and this time _MAYBE_ it will work.

BTW it might be listed as "Unknown Device". Good luck, hope it works out!

didn't work :( now i'm trying to find and download the device driver manually

Bugger. :( Do thumbdrives and external hard drives give you problems also?

Did you install NX2? According to a forum thread I read that solved someone's problems. Microsoft's own site says that D7K should be compatible out of the box (and I've mounted mine on Win7 with no issues), so it might be something in your installation.

BTW DO NOT go to the following site, which appears to install spyware instead:

STAY AWAY!!! Nikon d7000 drivers xp/7 STAY AWAY!!!

If all else fails, make a bootable rescue disk and try doing an OS repair. If that fails, time to get an external card reader (or just get one anyway)

:p

Guess you have to use the external card reader. Actually that's what I use, although by D7K works perfectly fine with my computer. Just more convenient to pull out the SD cards than to connect the cable.

If you have LR3 you can control the camera from your computer via the USB cable, and get the images onto your screen. Uber cool!

that's just what I wanna do >.>

Mac has no problem connecting to the D7K, and the movie files can be use in iMovie directly without any conversion.
iPhoto can help you organize your photos as well.

Reporting Back...
