50 1.8D – $180
Sigma 18-200 – $430 (suppose non-motor since D7000 has built-in motor)

$1998-$180-$430=$1388

$1388 is roughly the price of a D7000 body. They're just making you buy the extra sigma 18-200 (btw this has no stabilisation) and 50 1.8D by giving you a tiny little $12 discount.

200mm with no VR is virtually useless unless you want to shoot only in bright sunlight our want to lug a tripod everywhere.

I know this for a fact because the VR on my Nikkor 18-200 was broken for a while and the lens was essentially unusable past maybe 100mm.

True la, but defeats the point of a walk around lens. >.<

If you are not shooting at night, all you need is proper breathing technique. A bump or two in the ISO department can do the trick as well.

If at night, you are just wasting your time without a tripod

Bingo then. It's like buying a normal D7000 body, sigma 18-200 w/o OS, 50 1.8D which many are unsure of its goodness and a regular overpriced bag. Surely for this amount I can get a better shoulder bag. Add in around $30 or so and you'll get a dedicated shoulder bag from Lowepro, Vanguard etc

Sure. But as far as offers go this one won't make too many people jizz their pants.

Yeah... Anyone heard of Kata CS 15 bag? Artworkfoto is giving it for free for some equipments bought from them, like a $289 CT-5A tripod. After selling off the bag, you'll get around $120 back. So the $289 tripod costs only $169 now, as compared to the C5i's offer which results to $190 for a lower quality tripod. Any comments about this deal?

Anybody use D7000 for diving? Care to show the picture?

opppss.... i went there to check TV offers.. then i saw price is different ... D7000 + 50mm 1.8 + freebies includes KATA Bag@ $1698..

Any idea which shops is promoting this?

I'm currently using the Ikelite underwater housing for shooting out in the sea... high quality, if you ask me.
Aquatica and Sea & Sea have underwater housings for the D7000 too, but at about 2-3 times the price of a camera itself.

Yea, quite surprise when I saw aquatica's price..$2k ++ OMG!
Ikelite priced at $1k ++ is not cheap also..
I thought can get a housing under $100 :p

Thanks for replying zertelle!

unfortunately serious underwater photography is so expensive that the camera is probably the cheapest part...
you have to travel to the best spots with plenty of marine life and bear the risks of undersea predators, on top of bearing the costs of all the specialized diving gear. also, all the lighting, supports and gear have to be underwater specific. you can check them out at Seacam/Ikelite/Sea&Sea's websites.

if youre not on a paid assignment, you can try using smaller cameras in smaller housings... they are easier, cheaper, hence more suitable for your intended use.

cheers.
