Dry cabinet is the way to go man. Or maybe you can buy a dry charcoal instead of silica gel? My advice on this might be bad caused i'm not so experience in this. Leave mine to a dry cabinet to regulate moisture for me.
After calculating, you only paid $2050 for your kit from challenger. Was there a discount or something? Challenger and other major stores are selling at MSRP ($2299). If you bought it a week b4 the show, the price was already lower in regular shops at about $1950... I dun think there's more freebies from challenger than from regular shops...

That's one of my point I'm driving.... You do not get to choose what you get from freebie, and you are paying for it.... rather go filterless than crap filter.
I spent $2050 for the body, kit lens (with all the caps and pouch), tripod, Sandisk 8GB class 4, filter, bag (quite useful for a small one), cleaning kit, card reader and dry box. Dry box wasn't included at first. Sums up to $2030, but I wanted to get a dry box so the guy dropped the price from $30 to $20. He also said that we can bargain at Challenger now coz it's a new guy. The previous owner's <i>lao jiao</i> so 2299 then strictly 2299.

i did. i even went to every shop in Funan. the Challenger at the top floor turned out to offer the best deal despite it being the biggest there (it occupies the whole top floor). the first shop i went to offered $1900, but i turned it down. when i held their camera up i could immediately feel that it's been there for some time.
haha, then it's about how to get the shopkeeper to do what u want. It's not a big problem to ask the shop keeper to get you another piece for purchase. John 3:16 would glady do that. TkFoto goes back to the storeroom to get a new piece. Alan Photo's David Sau customer service is great, SLRR, just look for the honest looking, slightly small frame guy. He's great. Know the people well and you will see them serving you like VIP. I'm not sure about others, but ever since I'm into this hobby, I "window" shop there on a regular basis.
well it was also the first shop we visited, so i thought maybe the forums are a little outdated and i could get a lower price. the plan was to record down the door numbers, prices and more significant free gifts before deciding. there was this guy at Alanphoto who said "We do have the D7000, but no sample". My Dad and I were completely stunned, so we just said thank you and left. he probably thought we were just there to look around since we wore plain tees and berms there. my Dad pulled out his stack of 41 notes and started counting on the way out. bet we sent that guy to MH XD

Perhaps it is true that the conflict arises due to difference in context. What I'm saying is just that since I'm also a student and I wanted to buy d7000 at the cheapest price. It show is a better deal cause after the show I kept only the cabinet and lens and sold everything, I actually paid about 1.75k compared to $2050. So the point is if you are poor and you have done your homework and you are willing to go through trouble of resell, It show deal is great. Of course for seasoned photographers this is too much of a hassle. But beggars can't be choosers. So effectively you bought the freebies at a price much lower than rrp. Only to profit on them to bring down the cost of the actual camera. Isn't it a smarter move?

the $1900 was from the first store, but i didn't say it was Alanphoto. we only stayed in Alanphoto for around 20 seconds.
couldn't remember the name of the first store. it wasn't any of those named ones in CS, neither are they filled with customers. just 2

Don't get me wrong. The biggest carrot head was the 5% standard chartered. returned my $115 bucks. so effectively the other things only sold for $319. very easy since according to my quote, I supposedly only kept the nikon travel bag. so dry cabi ($120) prime ($180ish) 8gbcard ($15) handstrap ($20) kata bag ($80) filters ($40) umbrella ($10) cleaning kit ($5) + cashback ($115) I effectively saved $585 bucks. These prices stated are very realistic prices that have been successfully used to sell the products. Of course its all approximate and I did not chop any carrots by overpricing anything. $2299-$585 = $1714 (kit lens set + nikon travel bag +1x8gb sandisk card). These are nothing special, just the product of careful planning and grabbing the opportunity of the IT fair deal which you first claimed was bad, so I felt that I needed to correct you because the actual fact is, although trouble has to be made to sell off the extra useless freebies (just like how nikon brace bag is useless), I am definitely proving that IT fair deal was a way better deal, even for an experienced photographer who wants things cheap. Do tell me if you spot any carrot chopping in my prices.

Guys, I believe both sides have merits in the points they're making. Since the money have been spent, we should be sharing our views on how to maximise the camera. We can use our price analysis skills for the upcoming IT show (or whatever it's called).

Rant is:
It's the bag kept, not cabinet. Worked the sum for quite a while still cannot understand.
In your case, I must say u made a lot of effort to get what you want. It's great. To sell so many things to many buyers, you had put in a lot to save your hard earned dough. Kudos to you. But to many of us here, the freebie ends up collecting dust at home or being replaced. Selling them off (the cheap ones) just don't seem to worth the effort.
I'd no idea of the 5% rebate. Was this from Cathay or nikon?
Btw, you forgot to include the tripod in your trophy list.

oh yes the tripod. okay the statement you stated about cabinet and lens. that is the one I actually did. means I kept cabinet and lens. The $1700ish price I was talking about, is assuming a person who wants to buy a d7000 kit only and wants to save as much $$$ as possible and sells off almost everything else (since they may be useless). So I'm saying for someone like that, you can actually save a super lot of money by buying at the IT fair. Only downside is that you must make the effort to sell off everything. The cashback is from stan chart. I think more than 1 bank offer it. So if a newbie who is poor wants to save $$, its possible to get a kit lens deal at $1700 range after all the trouble. haha. Sorry I must have been beating about the bush that's why It seemed somehow confusing.
