well if you're talking about the tamron 17-50 non-vc. you can probably get it grey at 500 or local at $600+. I have it and it was my first upgrade from the kit lens. Image sharpness and contrast etc is really pretty good, never ever looked back at the 18-105mm anymore. But you might miss the focal length though. However you might like to buy the VC version if you don't really use a tripod or have shaky hands. If you prefer the VC version, have a look at sigma 17-50, its also very good, in fact better than tamron, but costs quite a bit more.

Tamron 17-50 Grey 5xx non vc 6xx vc

Local 6xx non vc

vc 7xx

What's the difference in getting the D7k from Singapore and Malaysia or Hong kong?

If I purchase from other countries, can I still bring to the NSC in Singapore?

Thanks.

Nope. That's why some of us refuse to buy these overseas packages, aka grey set. You do have the warranty, but you have to bring it overseas. In Malaysia it means bringing it to KL

Wah. That's crazy. Not worth saving few bucks if I've gotta bring to KL to service my cam.

So, even if I'm willing to pay NSC in Singapore to service the Malaysia set, they'd still refuse?

If I'm getting a used cam, how do I know if it's purchased from Singapore? The seller may say receipt lost or something.

You don't have to go to KL yourself, the shop which you bought from can send your gear for servicing, you can't expect Nikon users from the whole of Malaysia driving down to KL too right? The downside is that you have to wait, not sure how long it will take.

General rule for me is that if there's no document to prove its a local set, I will treat it as a grey

if no warranty card then guess u need to call NCS already. Normally warranty car will stated it is distributed by which country nikon... :-)

warranty lasts for only a year, seriously what are the chances of it failing within the first year? probably 1%.

warranty only covers manufacturer defects. meaning if you have a dirty sensor coz you didn't handle your camera properly, or the viewfinder cracked coz you dropped it, or whatever other defects that isn't coz of the manufacture, then warranty won't help you.

I believe manufacturing defects can be easily detected, unless you bought new equipments after some time.

sorry to hijack the thread..

Most likely it's dust on your sensor. If you can live with the black dot just leave it. You can remove dust spots during pp. if you want it gone, then just send for cleaning

Hi all,
Apologies to hijack this thread, butI got a friend who just updated his 2 days old D7000 following the instructions (copy the bin file onto SD card and other stuffs).
The screen shows the update was completed and request to power off and on the camera.
He did it and was unable to power on the camera anymore.
When switched on, the top and back LCD screen is totally blank except for a blinking green light (for the SD card?).

He has also tried to:
a) recharge the battery
b) press 'QUAL' & '+/-' button

Was wondering has anyone encounter such a problem ?
Any solutions beside going back to NSC during weekdays ?

Thank you in advance.

NSC is the best free solution. At least it's in town, unlike other service centres.

Thanks !
Meaning NSC will be able to resolve the issue for free ?
Any idea if they can solve it on the spot or need to leave the camera with them ?
Thank you !

Try take out the SD card and try to switch on again.

Seems to be a same issue when I was using D5000.

Hi all,

Hi j0k3r and kayel79,

Can to share where you got your D7000 from? How much? And what accessories does it come with?

I'm thinking of getting one, but afraid to get ripped by some salespeople and some shops.

Greatly appreciate your advice.

Thanks! :))

Hi Dennis,
I got mine in Malaysia.
Got it for RM3030..... around SGD 1262.50 (using $1 = RM2.4)
This price is just for the body only as I have my existing lens to work with. :)
