same bottom dilemma too...but straight after looking at the spec, I'm more or less ready for D7000...just waiting for the drawbacks to be identified...:think:

Yeap, quite true. Afterall, all of the what ever camp users, actually working part time for these company if we really go and calculate. E.g.: some people actually working for Apple company.
Same here. Now from this point, I can understand that how smart Nikon's marketing is (compare to Canon's is another approach; there is no right or wrong, but which one makes more sense to you).

IMHO, Canon is still the clear market leader in DSLR by vitrual of their strong marketing campaigns (think Ken Watanabe, Avril, Geoff Ang), long association with F1/Sports photography (Cahier, Heath). Most consumers buy into entry level DSLRs like 550D when they upgrade from their pns. And for most of their usage, Canon entry level DSLR is good enough.
It is only when they get more serious/involve would they consider other aspects of the DSLR system (lenses, speedlight, AF pts, fps etc). Maybe thats when they will decide if they want to continue or jump ship. But I would say that would be the minority. Most would be happy to stick to 550D kit.

Well... given the successes of D90, D80 and D70 before that... I can see you two as confirmed potential customers already... The only things I know that's on both your minds are "when to buy it, and where to get the best price?" It's no rocket science to figure that one out... coz I wondering that myself! :bsmilie:
I think Nikon has a winner here this year.
I've been procrastinating from buying a DSLR for years (last SLR purchase was a new F3!).

I disagree. Most consumers (those who use DSLRs as necklaces nowadays) look at numbers - they don't actually know what these specs do for them. But they like to see the numbers. So, more megapixels, AF points, fps, screen resolution, ISO, video resolution & fps etc etc = more popular. And Nikon is also stepping up their advertising, just look at those cheesy "Nikon moment" with the Nikon logo plastered all over the newspapers during the YOG period...

They should dump the D3000 commercial that's been going on widely last year ... I don't find the girl appealing one bit... Everytime I see the girl's face on the buses, I go... :what: Not that she's not pretty at all... but like you've said, I do find the commercial pretty cheesy making the appearance of her face (maybe it was two different girls) as a reminder to it...
Then again, maybe Nikon is appealing to a different kind of audience to keep their boat extra afloat. Lets keep our eyes elsewhere...

Sometimes I do lament on how Nikon is mild with marketing...they should get a bikini babe(blonde prefered) and pose with the dslr...then take good photos with minimal knowledge on operating the dslr. This shd be interesting for the entry levels...though not classy enuff:bsmilie::bsmilie:

You didn't know?? My D90 is MiT...so is D300s! Not surprised that D7000 will be too. Not to mention a number of good Nikkor lenses!
If I'm not wrong, D5000 and D3100 and D3000 are also from there. Only D700 and upwards are MiJ
I think Nikon has a winner here this year.
I agree .............. Nikon doesn't stinge on offerings ..... when they give they don't hold back ............. :thumbsup:

not much difference actually in terms of QC..
thailand is just cos it's more economical for entry level to mid level bodies to produce
even pentax bodies are all made in vietnam IIRC even their top end model.. and it's still so solid eg K7

Why not take a visit to Nikon showroom at Xerox towers at Anson rd? CBD area. You can feel all their equipments in one go. Rest assured, if I didn't know D90 was a MiT product, I'd still say it's a high quality product - the finish is really good. So good that I looked away from the competitor models (even those MiJ)... I'm sure D300s users will attest to this statement as well!
