Bro, are you using PC? I have no problems downloading directly to my Mac.

Ouch! Take back my words. Could only import jpeg files directly through iPhoto. NEF files are a no-go because not recognized as 'mass storage'.

try right clicking the D700, then click "explore" and you should be able to see them? no? :dunno:

Somehow, the camera is not detected as storage and is not shown. Both NEF and jpeg files can be viewed thru iPhoto but only jpeg can be imported. :dunno:

I don't know if you guys who own a D700 have this problem but I tested one at a shop today and found that when I switched it off, the LCD panel indicated that it's still on.

What was a real seller was the very sound of the shutter. Man it sounds FANTASTIC.

Like most of the guys, I agree it has come a long way since D70. But I sure hope the D700 have the same CF card door like that of the D300. The door was really like a prosumer camera's.

I thought it sounded very loud and sharp... a conduct very unbecoming of a camera of this calibre. Definitely a no-no when shooting in a quite environment like a church or a recital. :nono:

And since you have already handled the camera, you should know that the CF door is not at all like the D300. ;)

Just had the D700 for 2 weeks now. I've used the D3 before ( A friends ). The D700's shutter/mirror slap is 2nd only to D3. On the D3 you only hear the shutter...no mirror slap. Still the D700's sounds so precise, plus the weight of the solid body...it really ooozes QUALITY!!

Nope! When I switch the cam off, the LCD panel only shows the remaining 'space/shots' for the CF. :)

As a convenience feature would it be good for Nikon to consider adding a simple video function to its DSLRs range in future. Nikon seems to be the only one that should not care as it does not have the video camera business. As long as it does not affect the performance of the DSLR I think I would consider this function as I do not want to carry another video device with me having brought with me the DSLR no matter how small the video camera device is. I would certainly enjoy the brighter lens and better sensor from the DSLRs. Just a thought to share and hopefully Nikon will consider someday soon.

Consider it done , you will see it in the "rumoured" D90. Coming very soon :)

Did anyone compare the D700's dynamic range and S5pro dynamic range? If yes, which one has better dynamic range?

Thanks

Henessy, have you checked the dpreview results? For the D700, you can also refer to the D3 review since it's the same sensor:

In their own words:

"It's not quite Fujifilm S5 Pro level, but with careful processing it's not far off."

yeah! And it will be nice if Nikon can add a voice communication module so I can use it as a phone too since Nikon also not in the mobile phone business ;p

Imagine a 12 mega pixel phone with QWERTY!

It will be lovely to throw in CD burning capabilities + built-in Lightroom 2.0  The ability to print 4R print will kill all rivals in the market imho.

;p

Actually most DSLRs and Coolpix already can print 4R if connected to the appropriate printer via the USB port. :D

but i thought the d700 and d3 shares the same af module. why would there be a difference in af?

Having the same module doesn't automatically mean that the detection algorithm and computational power is the same to give you the same kind of performance.
