So fast? After D300 released..

hmm.. considering the specs and the price of D300, 3.3k isn't that bad rite??

but anyways, if its USD2995, then convert to SGD will be closer to 4k..
my bad. i meant to say 4.3k
out of range for me.

so hoping for a cheap D300 heheh

S$4.3k Plus more expensive lens.....

i hope it price at $5k :vhappy:

If D700 is really FF and If canon 5D mark II rumour is true then is going to have a Canon and Nikon war soon. Will that happen??

So there is no d90 afterall.

If the D700 were to come out..the pricing of 4-5k would be possible..in between the price of a D3 and D300.. makes it more competitive..hmmm.. I hope the performance would be good..

So Nikon's quote that they plan to focus more on semi-pro and pro bodies were true

In the past, Nikon's tradition has been to release a semi-pro camera not long after a pro model is released with features similar to the pro body... eg F4->F90, F5->F100. It seem like they could not keep up with digital bodies until now. D2X->D300 took a bit long, D3->D700 (if it materializes) would be timely.

If past trends still hold, the D700 would be a slower machine but will include some useful features that make D3 owners drool as well. There is a likelyhood to get max ISO at 12800 with Hi1 and Hi2 boost at ISO25600 and ISO51200  respectively.

We'll see.. ;p

must have pop up flash that can be used as a commander for CLS

I always thought of the D200 as the D2x's little boy and the D300 the D3's brother. (D100 and D1 have no relationship to me).

Why would you say that this D700 would be the D3's semi-pro model? To me it would be in a class of its own. To me the D300 IS the D3 with the exception of the sensor and inbuilt grip with some additional horsepower.

It's not little boy. In the past, the semi pro model released soon after the pro model has specs similar or exceeding the pro body spec, eg F4->F90, F5->F100. Similarly we can see that D300 released quite long after D2X has specs which surpassed D2X and this D700, if as rumoured, is soon after the D3 and is going to have specs which is likely to surpass D3. They are just going to be slower in the fps aspect and probably less stringent weather seals compared to the pro body.

Then again, in the past, it's 8 years between the pro models. It's a lot shorter now between the pro models but I think once the technology stabilizes, then it should be back to normal.

I don't really agree with you on this but to each his own I guess. Eg. F5->F100

F100 misses out some features of the F5 that you will notice eg MLU, 100% viewfinder, 5FPS vs 8FPS, slowest shutter speed of 30s on the F100. If we want to get picky then the 10 zone matrix meter in the F100 vs the 1005 element matrix meter in the F5 etc etc.

The F100 wins some back on the placement of controls eg dynamic autofocus control is on the back rather than on the top for the F5, highlighting of autofocus sensors (which is damn stupid for the F5 to have left out)

But ultimately I would still say D3>D300 | D2x>D200 (D2h is in it's own class) | D1x<>D100 (this one is debatable I think) | F5>F100 | F4>F90s.

I see it as each pro model coming out first, and a while later the semi-pro/lighter/no V-grip model coming out with some features cut out. Not D200 for D1x, then D300 for D2x etc.

oh boy this things will not end:dunno:

wow, hope camera prices are dropping
