Yes, D3 will be discontinued. But when, got no idea. right Cheesecake? :bsmilie:
D3 will be discontinued when a newer updated version is out.
always the practise from Nikon to replace older models n phase it out the minute a newer, more advance model is released.

This is the mentality way Japanese work. If you work in a Japanese company, you'll know what I mean.
They will keep on improving upon the previous model/work whenever they achieved what they have done. And will make it even better in this case.
Therefore, take a look at almost all the DSLR market. Majority of them are Japanese products right? Their working mentality is marvelous too. No match at all.
To be rather frank (and OT abit), I'd rather they come up with an AF-S 70-200mm VR II Nano Coat rather than a new body. I think the D300 and D3 fill up the DX and FX segment very well and there is no need for another body.
I've never bought the AF-S 70-200mm VR I and stuck with my AFD 80-200mm due to the fact that the vibration reduction wasn't as fantastic as I had hoped. If only they have the vibration reduction capability of the 18-200 I'd snatch it in a jiffy.
Chanjyj,
unlike file camera days, DSLR has become just another electronic commodities, and in this competitive market place, product innovation, speed to market with competitive pricing is the key winning factor, Nikon is just like any other DSLR manufacturers, have no choice but continue to push out new consumer grade model asap. If they dont, Canon and many other would. Whereas lens is a far more matured technology product, they the manufacturers know, their existing customer will not likely to jump ship just because their competitions launch a new lens. Another consideration, the DSLR body sales voume is far more higher than that of the lens, no manufacturers can ignore the DSLR body market.
So in summary, we can continue to see new DSLR to be launched very quickly, but unlikely the lens.
One thing that makes me wonder though - who is the target market? Seems like there is no market for the D700 at all! at this price, I think most sensible people will either go for the D3, or the D300. Not something inbetween.
Unless of course, you tell me that the D3 is going to go out of production as soon as the D700 comes out together with the D3x
D3 - FF position for pro
D300 - DX for pro/amateur
Nikon still have a missing product for serious amateurs segment who want a FF but not at the price of D3. Canon has a 5D FF at this segment for the longest time and is likely to launch a replacement model soon. In the short product life cycle today, Nikon is considerably light year behind and is losing too much market share in this aspect. And it is likely that nikon will push D3 up the value chain by giving it a higher MP sensor with even more feature............my opinion.....
the rest are ...if.... one can afford to wait till canon launch their 5D replacement,.....D700 price will drop.....if only there is a D700 and there is a new 5D....just wait and see....if...... and frankly, Nikon and Canon wont dare to wait because they know Sony and Olympus etc wont wait......and consumer wont wait.... :bsmilie:
just look at the crowded handphone and compact cam market, who is talking about product positioning and rationalisation? I am sure, the manufacturers themselve are also confused....:bsmilie:
