No, it's not ok to make things up as a moderator. Everybody knows the camera was 2-3 months earlier on sale and you're suggesting only the Nikon forum moderator didn't know that?

I am posting as a member. When we moderate, we moderate. When we are sharing info, and getting involved in discussions we are posting as members. And forum moderators are all volunteers. None of the the moderators work for Nikon, neither are we representatives of Nikon or any other manufacturer. I am allowed to make mistakes like anyone else. Do I look like a walking Nikon bible or history book to you? So what is your problem? You sure you want to continue in this line of conversation, attacking the moderator community and what they do?

the moderator is only a human being and as such, nobody is perfect. everyone is prone to some mistakes from time to time.

take it easy.

its good that Nikon has a solution and this should put some fans/users/potential owners to ease.

+1

Moderators don't earn money doing these guys AFAIK, they are volunteers, helping to keep up this forum. They are entitled to commit mistakes, as we all do. I know we are all cool here! So let's get back to the topic! Cheers to all!

Hopefully nikon will find a permanent solution to this ASAP so you guys can enjoy your great camera....

You guys should get used to the culture here.
When there is negative issue posted regardless of Nikon products or NSC, many so-called old birds will come in and give negative comments.
Buying a camera with self-generated dust on sensor is like buying a car with dirty windshield, the dirt keep coming back after cleaning (wondering who the heck can accept this lol)

A camera with "self-generated dust" on sensor is different from dust generated through the changing of lenses. Which are you trying to imply? Most seniors here are normally more helpful than what you painted. To me, a sin is a sin, no matter how big, and there needs to be a clear-cut resolution, otherwise, it will always be a sin. I have put away buying the D600 and is still considering the day when Nikon can resolve this problem. Meanwhile all my ais lenses will stay with my NEX 5N, one year old, and still no dust on sensor despite switching lenses so often with my 4 ais lenses.

Here's some interesting and heartening news.

I was at Nikon last Thursday and the CSR seemed to imply there was a fix available for the D600 if you left your camera for 3-5 working days. I wanted to use the camera so I opted for a quick cleaning and planned to return it for full servicing on Monday (today).

I arrived at the Nikon Service Center at 5:38. They were closing. (I didn't realize they closed earlier on Monday than on Thursdays.)

I spouted a few inappropriate words of frustration and the person apologized and asked what the problem was. I told them it was my third trip down for the D600 dust problem.

The person very kindly ocfered to pick the camera up at my office tomorrow.

When I asked this person if Nikon had a real fix for the problem, they said yes, there was, in fact, a parts replacement that solved the problem. They explained that the reason the fix took so long was that the first fix didn't work well and they had to wait for a new fix.

But that confirms there is a real parts replacement fix, it seems to be tested to be effective and it's being rolled out now.

I also asked them why Nikon didn't announce this and they just shrugged their shoulders.

This one person helped restore my faith in Nikon (a little bit); why couldn't Nikon management have been more direct and forthcoming?

I sent in my D600 last Tue and until today, nobody from NSC called me for collection. Feeling a little strange, I called them this afternoon and they told me they are waiting for a part to be shipped. They confirmed that the part is the shutter but I will need to wait for another 2~3 weeks though. I am not in a hurry and so I will wait and keep my fingers crossed.

At long last.... God Bless....:cheergal:

I mean the dust source is from the inside of the body.

I think what he meant is that, there's no official announcement or acknowledgement from the nikon's bosses (nikon japan?) about the problem.

I guess Nikon wants to solve the problem discreetly, they dont want to acknowledge the problem because, if they do, they might need to recall all the D600, more troublesome for them and costly. I could be wrong though.

That's being dishonest if they do that.

As someone said previously, there arent any safety concerns, and also it may not affect all d600. A recall seems a bit too drastic from the company point of view.

Just got back they change my shuttle unit. But guys do check I went off took a shot saw a few big spots. I not a picky person but it Shld be cleaned before send back to us right. End up I stayed at Nikon 1hr plus. n still tell me shoot small aperture there will alwayd have some dust..

That's BS. Dust should be a rare occurrence if the camera is properly treated.

Much like of the Toyota cars ( I forgot the car model) that were recalled in the U.S., it involves safety concerns.

The D800 also have problems with left side AF points? I'm not sure if Nikon acknowledge that also. I'm new to photography and it makes me wonder if these instances happened before in the past, that their product (or any camera manufacturer) have some widespread problems/faulty and they don't acknowledge it... maybe they don't want to admit they commited (design) mistake or something...

At least in the D600 case - they are changing the shutter, that's their way of acknowledging it, I guess...
