Ask u guys. If we r thinking of a UWA lens such as nikkor 10-24, r there any equivalent compatible brands to substitute? The nikkor lens price is a *gulp* unless the quality is superior then the compatible ones n it's really worth the money.....thxs for ur help...

Tokina atx 116 pro dx 11-16mm f/2.8 , brand new abt 900+ (check the price guides or the under the tokina thread.) yes it has no BIM.

Alternatively, the
Tokina atx 124 dx pro 12-24 f/4 mark II, which has a BIM. It is just as sharp as the atx 116 pro dx. It about 700 +800+ (iirrc)

U can google some reviews,

Thxs for the advice n heads up bro. Really appreciate it...

Hi new D5100 user here. Or you can try Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 or 8-16 F4.5-5.6? I have the sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 and really like it. Be sure to try out first before buying since there are variations between copies. But lucky for me, the first copy I tried was already sharp and has no auto focusing issues. Depending on your priority.. low light performance may not be that important and besides the shorter focal length enables you to use much lower shutter speed without shake. Not to mention the excellent high iso capabilities of the D5100 which I find quite acceptable till 1600-3200. Btw take note that for 8-16mm, its front lens element is bulbous (protuding) so you cannot attach filters (which is not really important for my case since vignetting is more prone in such extreme focal length) and is much more expensive than 10-20 (major deciding factor for me). :)

Thxs for the pointers. I'm really in love with the products of UWA lenses that's why the search. Does the sigma you mentioned has a builtin motor? Can share the price n place u bought or just pm me? Thxs a lot.

Another thing is, on top of the UWA lenses, i'm looking at a replacement for my kit lens of 18-55. Is it better to get a 55-200, or 18-200 or 18-105 just suffice? It's really a headache cos i will either end up with these combi,

1. UWA + 18-55 + 55-200 (ok ok la but hv to carry 3 sets of lenses)
2. UWA + 18-105 (ok la except 18-55 will be redundant)
3. UWA + 18-200 (exp !!!)

I really need the experts n experience advice here......n wow, didn't realize that this hobby is addictive huh.... O-o

why you want to change? i think you just stick to what you have first....

Ya stick to what you have first. Find out what type of photography you like first... I think a 35mm f1.8 dx or 50mm f1.8 would be better choice compared to 55-200 for general photography. Don't really find myself needing telephoto that often. Btw I sent you a pm liao. Check your message.

yeah...that was my unposted option no. 4. i think i'll stick to what I have first and find my soft spot......heheh....thxs again. sometimes just need reassurance.

U know, there's quite a number of tamron lenses with F/3.5-6.3, be specific.

hmm.. dont get you, tamron got quite alot of model. can you give 1 example? like 17-50 f2.8. or xx-xx f3.5-5.6

oh ya....fingers faster than my brain. it's Tamron 10-20mm F3.5-5.6. thxs bros....

Hmm not sure about tamron,

Only know lots of ppl using sigma 10-20 f3.5/f4-5.6 lots of good review

I guess.... Tamron 10-24 for weight constraint and most flexibility 15mm-36mm ff. Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 for budget and 8-16 f4.5-5.6 for widest angle. Tokina 11-16 f2.8 for low light for example architecture and best sharpness. The rest are like tokina 12-24 f4 and sigma 10-20 f3.5 for less low light capability compared to tokina 8-16. Tokina 12-24 least wide but more flexibility ultra wide 18mm ff to normal 36mm ff. All have in built motor except tokina 11-16 and first generation of 12-24. The newer version ii 12-24 has.
Price range:
Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6, tokina 12-24mm f4 around 700-900
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5, tamron 10-24mm and tokina 11-16 f2.8 around 900-1k+
Sigma 8-16mm should be around 1.1-1.2k+ like that.
Hope this helps. The prices are rough estimates only. All are good choices depending on what are your needs like low light vs wider focal length, personally i went for sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 compared to more expensive options and by saving a little more, you could get another lens such as 55-200mm or 35mm DX.
