Yeah I using sandisk class 10 16b card also.just eject and insert in viewfinder mode works everytime

The one I have is class 10. Strangely my sd card reader for computer seems to have no problem reading it but can't be something wrong with the sd card slot on my D5100 because it can read my 3 other cards without problem (they are all class 4 btw). Maybe class 10 not designed for use on D5100 ?

My D90 have no problem reading sandisk class 10 memory. If D5100 is not design to take a class 10 SD card consider that D5100 is a year 2011 design, then someone should really slap nikon real hard.

Have your SD card check it out or bring your setup down to NCC to have a look.

So far I dont have any problem with the free card given.

hi guys.. new to nikon here..

anyone using this? and any compatibility issues? (esp with autofocus)

replies appreciated, thanks!

There won't be any compatibility issues unless you bought a canon mount version (or any other mount type) instead of a nikon mount sigma lens.

VERY VERY IMPORTANT.

Buy NIKON mount version. You are safe to go.

I think d5100 users should rally n go NSC to screw them upside down. It seems that this cam has a compatibility problem with sandisk cards. Nikon should release an update to fix this problem...

agree... the card have problem with D5100 ONLY?? yet other devices work prefectly fine?

Yes seriously if D5100 is having issues with sandisk they should just release a new firmware to support these cards but if it's hardware related, Nikon should also do the necessary hardware upgrade free of charge. I'm still testing my sandisk 16GB with another camera to see if any problems occur.

Memory card issue d5100 go to the dealer to change or get a new card. I bought form EXPO too. Problem solved . Now enjoying it .

Go back to the dealer at sim Lim change memory card, normal class 4 card test at the shop ok . Get a Class 10 SD card. It is card faulty , D 5100 support the latest Sandisk class 10 card .

After testing my sandisk 16GB with 2 other cameras and my card reader, there seems to be no problems. It's quite crazy that my 2 other cameras are both more than 2 years old but don't have compatibility issues. The problem only happens on my D5100 :(

In the first place how can you compare a pro series dslr and a beginner dslr?

Seriously I do not regret buying d5100. The reasons are below:
1. It is light, I do not get shoulder aches when I lug it all day long, especially during tour.
2. It got a flip screen which is good when my gf and I want to take our own shots
3. ISO control is good compared to the rest of the nikon dslr series except the pro bodies. It is good enough for me and my daily usage.
4. It is small, I do not need to get big camera bags just to store 1 big body and 2 other lens. I can put my d5100 camera in any bags that I have now.
5. It is so much cheaper than the rest of the nikon dslr except d3100.
6. I use it for my leisure only.
7. Flip screen is also good for low angle ad other awkward angle shots.
8. Lens selection are limited but great, I do not need other lenses currently.
9. Enough for family gatherings and personal gatherings
10. Camera depreciation is not that great if I want to sell next time. Unlike the pro series camera like D3S, it worth $14k now but in 5 years time, it's market value is not even $5k. Last time I used to own a d200 which cost me $2800, in 3 years time, I only manage to sell it at $950.

Agreed, and that's why I got a D5100 for leisure after previously owning a D300. However, to be a fair judge, here are some caveats to owning a D5100 that won't necessarily immediately cross your mind when you compare the D5100 to the D7000 (expands on Reno's point no. 8).

1) D5100 doesn't do matrix metering with older AI-S manual focus lenses. I love MF lenses for two reasons: build quality and price. Good MF lenses like the 105mm f2.8 micro can be found at half price compared to the new 105mm AF-S version. I would normally use MF for macro work so the cheaper AI-S 105mm is the lens I would get. However, this lens won't meter with D5100.
2) No autofocus screw. Ok you all know this already, but do you know that A) AF-S lenses are more expensive than the AF-D counterparts? Therefore you might spend less on the body initially, but you might need to spend more on AF-S lenses later on. B) You miss out on a lot of pretty awesome non AF-S lenses; for e.g. 105mm/135mm F2 DC.

For a beginner photographer who doesn't care about the wide variety of lenses that Nikon has to offer, then the D5100 is perfect for him. But for somebody who would want to explore Nikon's long (and historic) line of lenses, a more advanced body like the D7000 might suit him more.

Other things that annoy me (slightly) in the D5100 that might annoy you too:

3) There is no shutter release priority option for single release mode in the D5100. In other words, when the camera is in AF-S mode (single shutter release mode) the shutter will only be released if there is focus lock and you cannot change this in the option menu. There is only shutter release priority option for AF-C mode in the D5100.
4) Cramped grip. I've got big hands. But obviously better than those mirrorless camera grips.
5) Tiny and dark viewfinder, but it gets the job done regardless.

But even having said all that, I can't agree more with Reno that the D5100 is an extremely value for money camera. It has the same sensor (though not the same AF and metering systems) as the D7000 at nearly half the price. Great flip out screen for playing around (it's really fun to use, trust me). And I don't have to worry about depreciation.

i agree! i think it's a common issue for d5100. i recently purchased nikon d5100 with a Kingston 8GB/class 10 SDHC and i'm having the sporadically "SD card not inserted" problem. however if i use my Kingston 4GB/class 4 SDHC, i'm not having any problem at all. it could be that there is a compatibility issue here with regards to the class (speed) of the SD card.

And they even dare to claim in the specifications list that class 6 or higher is recommended. I'm happily using a 8GB Kingston Class 4 without any problems. Videos are captured without any frame rate loss and I can still achieve normal burst rate for photos. So a Class 10 card is just a marketing gimmick to con people's money? Now I'm stuck with this expensive Class 10 Sandisk 16GB which is overkill but works perfectly on my $179 digital camera but gives me lots of problems on my $1K camera. I feel like writing in to Nikon to complain and I think I should.

I used to face the same issues with my camera. Was given 2 sandisk 4gb cards upon purchase and both cant b read well by the camera. Called up nikon and they told me tat since I got it from IT fair I shld go back to Alan photo. They claim tat it's the card issue. Sounds to me like they heard this issue many times.
The guys at Alan were nice enough to swap both my cards with Transcend. Again it seems like they already knew this common problem.
Transcend cards have no issue with my camera so far. Those who r thinking of changing cards can try Transcend instead of getting a higher class sandisk. Don't quote me tho, I'm no expert from Nikon :)

I got no problem for my free sandisk 8gb card, no problem for my 8gb ultra card and no problem for my 8gb Extreme card......

are they all class 4 sd cards? if yes, then we can conclude that only "class 4" SDHC cards works fine with Nikon D5100 regardless of the manufacturer.
