Seriously, do your find D5100 a good camera? after using company's camera (D3X)....... got a feeling that D5100 actually short of quite a few features or abilities. No focus motor etc..... frankly speaking, any regret buying this camera?

No regrets..

Seriously, you can't compare a camera that is 10x the price of a D5100. There are bound to be some differences which will make users pay the differences.

In the first place how can you compare a pro series dslr and a beginner dslr?

Seriously I do not regret buying d5100. The reasons are below:
1. It is light, I do not get shoulder aches when I lug it all day long, especially during tour.
2. It got a flip screen which is good when my gf and I want to take our own shots
3. ISO control is good compared to the rest of the nikon dslr series except the pro bodies. It is good enough for me and my daily usage.
4. It is small, I do not need to get big camera bags just to store 1 big body and 2 other lens. I can put my d5100 camera in any bags that I have now.
5. It is so much cheaper than the rest of the nikon dslr except d3100.
6. I use it for my leisure only.
7. Flip screen is also good for low angle ad other awkward angle shots.
8. Lens selection are limited but great, I do not need other lenses currently.
9. Enough for family gatherings and personal gatherings
10. Camera depreciation is not that great if I want to sell next time. Unlike the pro series camera like D3S, it worth $14k now but in 5 years time, it's market value is not even $5k. Last time I used to own a d200 which cost me $2800, in 3 years time, I only manage to sell it at $950.

Cant agree more... all the reasons are laid down. Im happy with my first and our family dslr, no regrets. :-)

Comparing the top range model with a consumer model? Did u regret buying a Toyota when u see what a Ferrari can do? You get what you paid for bro. If you need the AF motor, you should at least get the enthuist model such as D90 or D7000.

Ya.. true.... "Did u regret buying a Toyota when u see what a Ferrari can do?"......... i shouldn't compare with a top range model.... anyway, D5100 already fulfill my basic needs, so... i shall stay on with it.....

Hmm....Toyota......vs Ferrari...haha

Agreed.. Even thou this is my 1st dslr, I'm luving it!
'Toyota vs Ferrari'... Lol! A gd 1!

U pay for what u get. Don't ever have a mindset of paying 1k and u can have the great quality of a 6k product.

that one is S$14K.... not 6k.... lol

Everybody is so quiet here..... how come nobody go try out the camera? Too busy with work.

Last Saturday went birding with my birding friends, it was very challenging for us as the eagle landed in front of us but there is a 1.8m fence blocking in front of us. We got no choice but to shoot through the fence, from the view finder, we can see the eagle but it is not as sharp as we want, this is due to the fence that cause the photos to be less sharp. Suddenly i remember that my tripod can be extended to 1.97m (above the fence height) and I got my D5100 with me. Happily i extended my tripod to max 1.97m with my D5100 mounted on my lens. Adjust the flip-screen to my viewing angle and set to live view. My friends went "woah...! Like that also can". Then i find that i am not tall enough to press the trigger button. So i took out my remote release cable and at the moment i plug it in my D5100, the eagle flew off with its prey. After that my friends ask me if i got the photos or not, I look at them and say " you say leh....." hahahaha...

Below is taken by my iphone on how useful the flip screen of D5100.... Have fun... Next time i would just take video instead of photos using the D5100....

Been raining almost daily.... Sian... Camera doesn't know how to swim.

I've been experimenting with manual mode over the weekend. It's real fun!!

Wished there were more scroll dials or shortcut buttons though...

Hi ,

I recently bought a d5100 from the expo. It is not detecting the Sandisk 8GB card that they gave along with it. I have tried another Sandisk SDHC card , still the same. Does any of you have the same problem?

No problem with it, but quite a lot of user got the same problem. You might want to call Nikon service center and ask them.

I just bought this camera today from SLRR. Really good service there and good price! Didn't come with much in terms of freebies but the starting price was already good to begin with. Can't wait to go shooting once I charge the battery.

omg I just noticed the back of my warranty card says Nikon Hong Kong. Mine is Hong Kong set? Did I just get cheated :(? Btw I registered online on Nikon and the warranty was approved but I think I will call Nikon tomorrow to check just in case.

All Nikon product is from Nikon Hong Kong, it just that they ship to Nikon SIngapore for sale... look at the warranty card again... it will mention about it...
