i believe the $999 offer is only for a fixed number of buyers

So no more liao? Or god forbid...its for the silver bodied one. Saw it there too. Really ugly.

If only they sell the D70s kit for that price.

Ok guys. I was there today afternoon. Was playing with the display set D50 and the salesman approach me and told me that D50 was available for $999. Whether it is silver body, not sure. maybe u can called mega court tampines and asked. Too bad i got my D40 few days back. I suspect that everybody think that it run out quickly and in the end nobody asked for it.

So much talk here! May I know how many people here have actually bought the D40? Do you need a cable release for this camera? Can you recommend some reasonable macro lens to go with it?

Hi dancemania,

I have used D70, D50 and now D40. I love this gem of a camera because of:

1. Better image quality. The D40 produces better jpeg images than D50 and D70. For raw, there is likely to be no difference between them although I never use raw because I do not put in the time to do post-processing.

2. Superb user interface with highly customisable menus (this is how DSLR software should be made). While Nikon has always had good menus, you really have to try out the D40 to see the improvement. The difference is like upgrading from windows 95 to windows XP (hmm ... I realise that windows may be a poor example). Advanced users complain about D40's access to settings through the menu but I find that it is just a little slower than D50/D70 with a two step process.

3. Good ergonomics. The D40 size is much smaller than D70 or D50 and that helps a casual shooter like me to carry it around all the time. I am an above-average size user.

I find the limitation to AF-S lenses an acceptable compromise since I do not use a wide range of lenses. I would recommend the D40 to anyone with a similar profile as I - a casual DSLR user who wants good quality jpegs in a easily portable body.

You can use Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control available for about $17 (AP-F), D40 does not accept cable release. I am not sure about a reasonable macro lens, maybe some one can help?

:)

I tried the Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro lens at MS last week, manual focus of course, yup its sharp alright....

Today I bought the Nikkor 50mm f1.8, it is also as sharp, so happy:bsmilie:

Just curious, will this Tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di II works on a D40 and retain its autofocus function?

If not, is there any other tamron/sigma lens dat can autofocus on a D40?

Thanks!

Only AFS (Nikon) or HSM lenses (Sigma) is able to autofocus when u use a D40

It should be said "Only lenses with auto focus motor inside is able to autofocus when you use D40".

Does D40 support Kenko Teleplus Pro 300DG 1.4X TC with 70-300mmVR

Looks can work. Why don't you bring your camera and 70-300mmVR when you try to buy the TC1.4x? If it doesn't work, don't buy.

Only 2 sets at TY at Toa Payoh compared to 8 sets Mega-Store at Tampines.

You may try calling TY at 6397 2330.

Not sure if it's Kit or just the body.

Looks to me it's the body only.
