Hi... Where's HN? and how big is the drybox?
I guess (from my point of view at least) is the value btwn the HDD vs. the drybox... since I would definitely need a place to store my DSLR when i'm not using for prolong periods...

HDD is definitely good to have... but HDD (imo) should or would be coming down in price in the PC world... donno about drybox though... how much is a typical drybox storing say 2 or 3 lenses?

HN = harvey norman. drybox size should be those typical i-drycase by digihub i tink. as far as i know i have seen some places selling at just $9.90 while some shops sell $40 for the exact same drybox.
well, 40gb hdd with a OTG case (i assume that) is at least 80bucks in SLS, so definitely worth it if you need it.

Well... the target audience is not the aspiring pro photog.. but more of those who want better image quality from a camera which is only slightly more expensive than those PnS out there...

yup, like what the dpreviewer have said, those who are more serious should aim for the d80 instead.

Finally got my D40 kit from Courts Suntec
g oing back to KL and play with it ...

tried Auto(w/o flash) and compared with my fuji F10 (natural light setting) @ both Iso1600 really does yield a better noise improvement (even w/o NR on)... but Duh... shouldn't be a surprise at all right....

and don need to even talk about the wider format as compared to the fuji.... i felt like all along was being "cropped" ahhahahaha

lovin it ! tried taking night shots using S and A mode... with varying settings by steps.. seems like the D40 will try to compensate whichever you go... unless I go full M mode.. played till like 2:30am still need to find / learn ... on some modes/settings i got a brighter than what it was... (as in.. it was dark in reality, but the camera took in more light and displayed it as a nice pic but was obviously not the same as in real life)...

i just saw it yesterday. very small :thumbsup:

but change the aperture and shutter a bit hard leh. dunno if there is a easier way? the scrolling of the aperture and shutter values a bit slow.

but the size is very small...think can bring it everywhere. hee

yes, i think there is a thread talking about d40 + HSM and AF was alright.

might want to skip all this and go for the 18-200VR. :devil:
yes, price is higher, but the focal length is like getting 18-55 and 55-200 + you get VR. :thumbsup:

18-135 = $450 (approximately), 2nd hand...

I am saving for the 18-200VR and will sell this 18-135 when I have finally got the $....but i dun think it will be any time soon...

Stopped by Lord's today to pick up some stuff and checked out a D40. Hmmm, felt plastiky and a bit small for my hands. Not much in terms of features really. 3 metering spots, No bracketing, 6 mp etc etc. Was wondering why it was produced in the first place, since any keen phtographer would change the body within months, and may face problems in selling it due to lack of features. Furthermore, only limited to dx lens unless you're into mf. Price is $990.

Another few hundred will get you a better deal i think, and that will at least last you for the next 2 years.

I think the Canon 350D feels more plastiky than D40, i agree the D40 is small, but strangely it fits quite welll into most of my fren's hands. Unless of course you have really huge hands.. haha ( you know what they say about ppl with huge hands.. )

I think you are missing the point of Nikon putting this camera into the market, where have you been all this while ?? Its very obvious, the features are 'toned' down for the new entrants into the DSLR field from pns and prosumer cameras.

AFS 18-200VR is the best value... with the other 18-200, you will not get Auto-Focus, VR and SWM.

If u are on budget, the 18-135 is a gd enough lens.. Image quality wise its not really inferior to the 18-200Vr. Get it..:thumbsup:

not sure its my monitor or what...

the colour looks dull...or you have use default setting

maybe can tweak the setting a bit to produce better colour...give the pics a bit more punch...
