D300s User Thread

Hi guys, sorry to reopen this topic again...
My D300s is the Version of 1.01, ive tried the method stated as to see if battery
switches over, and it does switch over from gip to body vice versa....
But yesterday when i was enjoying the shoot at Jurong Birdpark, the battery does not seems to switchover as it supposed to....

Called NSC and was told to send in for a check...

Wondering if any of u guys ever experienced this.....:(

It should.

When you mentioned checked the setting is it custom settings menu d11: battery order?

One way to test is to have both batteries full charged. Insert both batteries and install the grip on the camera. Set the grip battery to be the primary one. And pull the battery in the grip out. It should switch to the one in the body. If it doesn't, you need to go down to NSC.

And also, are you using original Nikon batteries? Some 3rd party generics have been reported to cause problems with the D300/D300s.

Hello everyone :) i join this D300 club

Sold off my D2H and bought D300 from a friend last month.

Just shot with it recently for NDP2010 firework and model shots. And more to come :)

Overall, I'm quite happy with it

how does the two-button reset work?
does it restore the factory settings?

Not all settings are reset. Only some.

thanks :) another query..
how do micro-AF adjustments and fine-tune exposure settings can be reset?
say.. i registerded my Sigma 18-50(non HSM) len's AF adjustment at +3.. then i sold out the lens..
it's setting has been saved.. when using another Sigma 18-50(HSM), the previous setting may be applying everytime this lens is mounted.. rite?
same for the exposure fine tune alterations.. i'd like them to be back as they were before..
how can they be reset?

Just turn AF fine tune OFF.

Or go back to the specific lens and set it back to 0.

Mine is default to OFF.

no need to mount the lens.. rite?
setting it back to zero also de-registers the specific lens' AF fine tune setting from camera memory, i hope

Hi guys... don't mind if I crash in and join the club I hope ;)

Been using this camera for about a year already... and loving it

Hi all!

I finally took the plunge yesterday and bought the Nikon D300S!

I've been using my trusty old D70 for the past 5 years or so and was bitten by the upgrade bug recently. Struggled with a few choices for a while ... swinging between used D700?, used D300?, new D300s?, wait for D7000? etc..

Hope I won't regret though haha... with the D7000 coming out next month and rumours of a replacement for the D300S next year!

Overall quite a good deal (i think).. Paid $2100 for it at CP (M) and got 2 pcs of 8GB SDHCs and this Nikon lens wrap (any idea what it's for??). Plus Nikon giving away 50mm 1.8 lens and a bag with the purchase.

very good promo! enjoy shooting! :)

Does D300S have a problem with noise or is it some setting problem? (D300S has lots of stuff to set!)

Haven't really transferred my shots to the PC yet as I'm still test shooting in various conditions, but I noticed that when I preview images on the LCD and zoom in, they look a bit noisy even when I'm shooting at just ISO 200 and under normal lighting conditions. Hmm...

good to spend time reading the manual, get used to the settings.

Did you shoot in RAW format? and please define what's the normal lighting condition.

In JPG.

I set it to L, Fine and selected the compression for optimal quality.

I think natural lighting conditions would be a better word. Basically I was shooting at abt
2pm indoors with a clear blue sky outside and the light coming in through the window.
Didn't need to crank up anything on the camera and didn't use any flash.

Btw I'm wondering why Nikon allowed for users to zoom in so much on the preview image until it can even show up looking really pixelated... Shouldn't be the case ma.. should have just allowed for maximum zoom up till only a certain point where the image on the screen still looks solid.

how much r u 'cropping' on the small lcd?better use the pc to check

i tink he refers to 100% crop.. it is always better to use your PC/software to check..

Harlequin2902 u might wanna pose a few pics here so we can see what you meant by pics taken @ iso200 yet noisy..

ya.
nothin like a pic :D

OK, will try to post some pics this evening at 100% crop for comparison.

Or is it because if you go back to the tech fundamentals... CCD chips are actually more expensive to produce than CMOS ones, and CCDs actually yield less noise compared to CMOS ones..
