mind if i ask why the preference on 35mm f2 or 30mm 1.4 and not 50mm f1.4?

I have both the 35 f/2 and 50 f/1.4, but I like the 35 f/2 over the 50 f/1.4 because of the range it gives me. On a 1.5x crop factor camera, the 35mm is about 52.5mm, but the 50mm is about 75mm. I also like to shoot closer to the subject rather than further away, so the 35mm allows me to do that better than the 50mm.

Also, I have not owned or tried the Sigma 30mm f/1.4, but personally, I like the colors that Nikon lenses produce.

Any shops selling this lens.;p

OP sells imported for about $600. Think local set is $700+. I remembered seeing someone selling in forums yesterday for $500 BNP, you can go search...

The angle of view for 50mm on DX is only 31.5 degrees. 30mm or 35mm would give around 45 degrees or more.
but besides the zoom and angle range? what else? does 35 f2 produce sharper image becoz it's given the close up to 25-28mm? will 50 f1.4 capture the same sharpness and quality if it's taken from it's closest 45mm?

Generally, prime lenses will produce sharper images than zooms. But when you have a long prime, e.g. 300mm, then you have to take care of handshake as that may make the image blur. The close distance helps also because of the shutter speed you need to capture a pic at 35mm is less than at 300mm.

provided u can be close to your subject...??? that's why i asked coz speed wise i'm sure 50 f1.4 simply go faster than 35 f2...??? anyway... the images taken by 35 f2 are really impressive and poisonous!!!

Thanks :D I bought the 35 f/2 because I wanted the range of 52.5 on a crop factor camera... but found it to be quite a gem! when i can't get close to the subject, then have no choice but to use a longer prime. Speed wise, 50 f/1.4 is a faster lens, but I find the 35 f/2 is more usable for me because of the range.

try lowering LCD brightness to -1 it might help

D80's Lcd is more colour faithful thou.
going the way of D300, i will miss that.

but all in all, D300  rocks!

The Nikkor 35mm f/2 AF-D is a "standard" lens on my D200. A real gem.:)

any more photos to share with the D300+35mm combo? tnx.

i still can't decide on which lens to get... 50mm f1.4 or 35 f2... review highly recommended 50 1.4 though... is there any forum thread on this so that i can read more? care to share more thoughts?

They differ in applications. It would seem you don't quite know clearly what you are looking for in your new lens. You just seem to be comparing both lenses' sharpness, judging from the queries you've posted.

depend on the size of the subject you will be taking and the focusing distance. i think 35f2 cost more than 50f1.4, must be better. 50f1.4 bokeh is so bad.

This picture is taken with a 35mm f/2 lens on a D80. I have to say, the 35 mm lens is almost all that i ever use. That's if unless I would want to go wider, which would be rarely.
I sadly, only own a 18-135(kit), and a 35mm, only.

better go with 35mm first if your body is not a D3. If you have money better buy both. 35mm F/2 is 430sgd only and 50mm F/1.4 is less than 430 if you buy to Oracle.
