some discovery about my d3.

1)it is made in japan (so psycho, u are right)

2)i slap on the 24-70 2.8. the focussing was sooo fast, i initially thought how come it's not focusing.(cos the beep was off at default).i look through the vf and focus again and realised it was soooo fast that my d200 feels like a minibus compared to a ferrari.

3)i couldnt change the playback timing. the picture review lasted a little too long for my liking.(please let me know if you manage to change the playback picture duration)

4)the liveview function, nice to have.but i foresee i wont use it at all.

5)by pressing the '?' (info) button, you get the top control panel information display right on your 3inch LCD screen.it's way cool.it even shows you which autofocus point and how many points you selected for predictive autofocusing

6)it doesnt come with a eyecup.i guess..that's sold separately.i dont like light spilling into the VF when i put my eye to it.

7)the panel backlights aint the typical green bulb lightup like d200.it's like F5 where it has indigo lighting.when i turn it on, it so reminded me of my f5.sweeeeeet:thumbsup:

8)the camera with the 24-70 is really heavy.i have to go to gym more often in order to do a shoot of a few hours.i cant imagine slapping the 70-200 afsvr on.i dont think i can support the combo for long.

9)it doesnt come with a LCD screen protector!what the....?!?!??!

10)i shot at iso3200 and the noise control is excellent.let me do some shoots over the weekends with high iso and i shall update it here.now's a bit late and i'm late for my tub soaking.;)

ok...these are my first impressions of the d3.
i'm sleeping with it 2nite.

I got my D3 and 24-70mm on november 29th and my wife suprised me with another D3 the next day:bsmilie: I've only been able to shoot this saturday and i must say i am totally impressed with the noise controlling ability of this beauty. Its ubelievable... especially since i kinda expect its noise controlling ability to be about that of my Canon 5D... my god was i wrong... you have to understand that for nikon i was coming from a D200 and D1x and their noise control is just plain terrible

To list the stuff that i am happy with for the D3
1. the NOISE CONTROL WOHOOOOO! THANK YOU NIKON!
2. the ability to add another CF card
3. the sound and feel of the shutter... my previous favorite was the 1DMKII but this is so much better.
4. the 9 frames per second that i tried..havent tried the extended 11FPS yet.. dont think i'll need it
5. the horizon stabilization whatchamacallit thing. kinda cool looks like airplane control but totally useless for my type of shots.
6. the fact that the controls are so familiar makes it cool too. coming from a d1x and d200, i must say i still feel right at home with them altough i prefer the AE-L/AF-L button to be at the same place as the AF-on button like it is on the d200.. I use spot metering alot.
7. the focus adjustment function for different lenses. i tried it with one of my back focusing lenses and it definitely works!!
8. and of course the Full frame sensor..makes all my lenses work as they should!. I only have one DX lens so this makes a huge difference to me...

My Pet Peeves
1. Where the heck is the damn screen cover???? what the heck?? on a 7000 over dollar camera some more.
2. No af assist light or if there is i don't know how to turn it on.. Makes low light shooting a pain in the butt....
3. heavy.... wish this was in a D300 package
4. wish the damn metering choices are at the same place as the d200.. makes the selection between evaluative and spot so much faster... can change as i am shooting with the d200 but for the d3 need to take the camera down to change it.
5. the design looks a wee bit clunkier then the pictures show.
6. dunno if this is related to the AF-assist issue under low light.. but had a wee bit trouble of locking focus sometimes... not all the time mind u but just maybe 4% of the time... didnt expect this.. but then again it could be because i was at the focusing limit of the lens i was using.

The 2 D3s and some of my old and new lenses i was trying out.

you have TWO ???? omigosh *faint*

Wow, you have a real generous wife...but why do you want two?? Then again, I would like two as it would save having to swap lenses so often. Congrats on your purchase and present!

post your photos taken with D3 and 24-70mm!

i took some pics of my kid from ISO 1600 to 25600.. I dont know how to do accurate comparrisons for ISO. but i do know that i like what i see when i take the pics of my kid..so this means more to me then any chart testing. All pics were taken in Raw format and then converted to Jpeg in lightroom for transfer to flickr. no editing done except for one of the higher ISO ones where i did a little croping.

ya...!!! i was really impressed too... didnt expect this kind of performance... really puts canon to shame.. even though i am also a canon user.

The iso control is insane man. If you use a DX lens does it reduce the iso performance?
