If you people think this thread is bo liao.. perhaps to you.

I would buy the D2X if it's 6MP. Believe me, I would. Have you even tried the D2X at 12MP?

I'd hazard a guess that most folks on this forum haven't ever used a D2X apart from those who have used one in a shop or at the Nikon launch etc.

I have a workstation powerful enough to convert 12MP NEF of D2X, but the point is at the end of the day I'm going to use only 6-8MP, so why would I want to waste time re-doing it to 6mp? Sure, I can do batch, but then, what for?
Exactly! Batch conversion while great for pre-processing lots of images for a client is not really applicable to getting the most out of the D2X NEF files. As you are only too aware but others aren't processing the D2X raw NEF's one at a time to get the maximum out of the image is time consuming even on a very fast system.

I never had a need for more then 4mp, I'm lamenting and hoping Nikon can release a 6-8MP D2X version instead. 12MP is nice, the details are SCARY, but also, feedback from 2 users, at 12MP the images are soft, personally I find them ok at Normal sharpness.
I for one would like to see the D200 come in at around 8-9MP and offering about 80& of the features of the D2x, with similar body ergonomics and colour accuracy mid way between the D100 and D2X. This way costs would be kept reasonable and the performance would be outstanding. I'd say a price of around 2~2.5K USD would be about right for a camera of such specifications as I've outlined.

I'd agree here, though to be fair it depends on the glass you're using. Certainly at 12MP with top quality Nikkor professional lenses the D2X images resolve more than I can get with 6x6 chromes using either Zeiss or Schneider lenses. I suspect that it will give 6x9 chromes a real run for it's money. As for soft, NEF's are a tad soft to start with but still resolve better than just about any other DSLR on the market., JPEG fine with sharpening are awsome for low end jobs.

Affording the D2X is one thing... the usefullness of the 12MP is very subjective for me. Maybe Jed and Ian can use to the max of 12MP, but to me it's an overkill. And no, I don't like H/Hs series ;p not my cuppa tea. :bsmilie:

I'd actually say 12MP is overkill for 99.9% of the amateur world as 6MP gives excellent results for up to 20x30" prints using a Lambda or similar printer when coupled with a good post shooting workflow.

The more I use the D2X the more I'm convinced that this is really not a good choice of camera for those who won't be using it to it's full potential, it's images are awsome to be sure, but it really isn't a camera for the masses as it will cane you big time if you don't have the prerequisite skills, lenses and knowledge that such a camera demands.

Jackpot ! ;)

Why why why why is D2X at 12MP? Why ain't it 6MP? Sigh. Headache. It would be nice if D2X came with a 6MP sensor or even 8MP, but buy 12MP? I certainly for one can't use up all the 12MP and neither do I need it. :(

Would it be possible that Nikon might release a 6/8 MP version of D2X? ;p

Hahaha, wait for D200 lor. It is 10mp :)

D200? Nah... cannot compare with D2X. :nono:

To start, if D2Hs had 6MP to 8MP, that would really be a darn good winner liao.

Now, I guess everyone is waiting on the D200 for now.

Currently I am... if the D200 can satisfy on the following points, due to it's lower MP I might consider it over the D2X, but of course, nonetheless, it will never be on par with the D2X

- Cam1300
- >6 NEF buffer
- 5 fps
- 3DMM II
- 6 <= MP <=12
- 99% VF coverage preferrably same sized VF as D2 ;p
- WT-2 compatible

Not for me too ;p But it's definitely good for Nikon to come up with a replacement for D100 that's priced below the pro-series and offering better features than the D70s/D50.

Entrees (D50) -> Consumer (D70/D*00) -> Pro bodies (D2*) ?

Think it's always standard for Nikon to have one that's consumer range like the hundred series :)

Yep... I would agree.

However, for other individuals they would prefer the D2h or D2Hs to have a larger MP count. But for Canon, I guess that is why some individuals went with the 1D2 because of the MP count among certain other things.

Oh, for those with NC4.3.1 check out the processing of D2X NEFs, it's faster now.

How I wish that my camera can have feature like Kodak FF DSLRs that can record in lower resolution raw format.

RAW
• 13.5 MP 4500 x 3000
• 6.0 MP 3000 x 2000
• 3.4 MP 2250 x 1500

I WANT THAT TOO! sweet!

Me yawn..... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

espn said:
Actually, without custom curves the images are as good as it gets already :bsmilie: Film is cheap... fast... but digital FF is... :faint:

Film is cheap... hmmmmmm

I stop using my contax SLR and think about DSLR because I thought digital is cheaper in operational cost. You can always review the picture on camera or PC before you decide to go printout.

Both have positive and negative side ;)

If 4mp is good enough, perhaps you should look at D2Hs? This camera seem to fit most of what you want.
