D200

if the photos u've posted are not sharp, then i dunno the definition of sharp.

anyone else with really sharp photos from D200 to show?

those pics will pass for full size.

i think i'll get a d200 instead of longer lenses

you should post a pic taken from another cam with the same lens.
Mount on tripod,same setting,same subject,same lens.

like dat call not sharp??

My D200 gives me perfectly crisp 12"x18"s and I'm not complaining. These days sharpness is more dependant on your lens and printer so stop looking for camera faults in 100% crops and start taking more photos.

hmnn...similarly w d2x all my lenses are soft wide open example vr 70-200 @2.8 or 50mm @ 1.4 but significantly sharp when it reach f4 to 5.6.thats before the software upgrading.after e upgrade it change everything....just try to remember ur dealing w high res output now.a little vibration will be recorded and it will show.

really? mebbe its high-time we all have a re-look at bjorn rorslett's (IMO) excellent user review (ie sans all the technicalities, pixel peeping and waxing lyrical over hardware found in Phil Askey's review - which is fine, if u like to pour over technical details)?

might i quote:

"D200 shares with D2X the honour of being a quite unforgiving image recording instrument. If there is any optical flaw or aberration of the image projected by your lens, the D200 will show the defect almost with the merciless clarity observed on D2X. Chromatic aberration (CA) rears its ugly head almost everywhere. Lenses you believed were just about perfect will suddenly appear devoid of their former splendour, whilst the real optical gems will take on a magical shine on their own... You can get truly impressive and stunning image quality from a D200 shot, but this - obviously - requires using the best lenses from the vast arsenal available in "F" mount. If you try to use mediocre lenses on the D200, you'll be rewarded with a corresponding result. So plan for adding better quality item to your lens line-up, if you have not already done so....."

so, unless ur d200 happened to have some inherent focusing problems (touch wood), or ur lenses are out of whacked (touch wood too), its most likely a case of PLBV.

actually, i can't see wats wrong with the sample pics, except mebbe the 85mm shows more details only (dats due to the resolving power of the lens, compared to the rest). :dunno:

ya ya... everyone knows u own a 70-200 la and that is a good lens.
don;t worry!

u should buy a D2X to go with ur exquisite lens la! dun waste time buying D200!hahaha!

or are u a fan of ken rockwell? hahaha!

D2X is obsolete! hehehe

Your samples looks perfectly fine to me. At 100% crop that is stunning and IPIN is right to say the light falling on the subject in the 85mm sample reveals more skin texture than the other two. When you print at the right dpi this kind of quality is hard to beat.
Btw, sharpness interpretation to me is pretty subjective, so no point listening to the negative comments about the "D200 sharpness issue".

BBB. MTL don't think so much.

Thanks every one.....

all photo took beside the HDB flat no direct lighting...

so far 85 at 5.6 really show me the *********clear view******* others to me is something like adding a soft filter

if any body can show me the sharpest shoot from the d70 d50 d2h d2hs d2x?

just the 100% crop

and the point will be?

all the cameras u quoted, while all using the same-sized DX sensor, all are of different resolution, different resolving power, different DR captured etc.... ie - not a fair comparison. u have a sharp camera and sharp lenses already.

thing about digital is we can magnify it so much 100% that everyone starts complaining. all the photos ou posted looks great as far as sharpness is concern.even if the 50/1.8 and 28-70/2.8 is less sharp( thought already very sharp) there is no cause for alarm cos you are comparing it to 85/1.4:bigeyes:

in fact if i were to choose i will not choose the one w 85/1.4 os it makes the skin looks dry and old.

like what many others has said, the texture may be brought out due to the angle of light.
anyway, thanks for sharing the photos....interesting

Not being disrespectful to other forums but I think these local-flavoured-CS-forums has its own place and has stood the test of time, albeit a short one.

Sharpness is not the only thing that matter. There are more important elements to photography. And it's just not a trivial pursuit.

Tell you what... go to PS, select Unsharp Mask, set Amount to max, pixels to 50, and threshold to 0, confirm sharp

Doesn't this tell you that the "sharpness" or lack of it lies with the lenses and not the camera?

forgive me for intruding, but how big are you going to print the photos anyway?

sorry, i'm not sure about your settings, so i'm going to ask a few questions:

- did you use a tripod?
- did you use AF or MF?
- is it possible the first 2 are just slightly unfocused?
