I can't read ??? and ???

What are you trying to post actually? I am read all the post and still can't get your idea. Wasting bandwith?

Regards,
Arto.

Juz an indication for those interested:

The Cam body of D200 is selling for JPY180,000 which is around SGD2,700 in Japan. The new VR lens is selling at JPY80,000 which is slightly more than SGD1,200 in Japan as well. Saw the poster in a big camera shop in Nagoya. So maybe SIN maybe slightly more ex.

Glennyong, how do you know if I don't already own a Canon 1Ds Mk 2? I could be the richest guy in the forum, or simply just a poor guy buying his first DSLR.
I would expect more sensible question(s) from a person that owns a 1DS MKII. However, if you do own one and asks such questions, you are indeed a rich guy on the forum, and that's all you are.

Either ways, no one would want to pay more than necessary. You may not know it, but the Canon 5D is priced about $1,000 more in Singapore than US or Japan, and we are talking about the same time period (launch time). Of course DSLR prices may dip over time; that's fair but that was not the issue I had raised.
I hope you do understand, that's Japan and SG, the RRP is different, and don't forget, import, taxes are all money for the sets that come from overseas into SG. $1000 more is still within the RRP. Rip off is something that's not the right word to use, they didn't charge over the RRP. And it's not in Nikon Singapore's hands to control the price. The RRP is there so that shops don't over price, but how much shops sell at is at their discretion.

Why be concerned about bugs? Because there are more experienced people than myself in this forum, and I only want their views. For example, some of the new Canon 24-105 IS f/4 lens have a serious flare problem and have been recalled. I wonder if you would not be, in your own words, "critical" if you had a lens like that.
I'm not considered experienced, but I would for one, choose to look at the camera and make it do what I want to do and overcome it's short comings. Bugs exists in different ways, short comings aren't bugs. Even if there's bugs, nothing Nikon SG won't fix. The good example is the BGLOD and the D2H metering PCB issue(s).

As far as I'm concerned, I would grab the first D200 that hits the store, I have that much faith in Nikon products and their service level. I had my CoolPix 5700's repair costs refunded to me promptly when I found out Nikon announced a known issue on the 5700. That's service and that's how I believe in Nikon.

As for Rip Off, every first batch is always more expensive. If you know economics, demand > supply, price increases.

I only know, every day you waste waiting for the price to drop, you lose the very same day time to shoot, enjoy the images.

Btw, the remainder of your arguments completely miss the mark also. I never suggested that Nikon Singapore should sell at cost price or below average variable costs or anything. If I may refresh your memory by referring to my first post in this thread, I had defined "rip off" as "pricing significantly higher than the street price in other benchmark countries".
As mentioned earlier, I did reply, how do you define street price? Are you the merchant? Do you know different merchants get the sets at different prices depending on the number of sets they bring in? Sets coming in to SG, has to cost GST, tax, etc. Nikon Japan to Nikon SG is also a sale, tax, shipping, GST etc. Price difference is natural. I just find your argument invalid.

December is coming. Holiday time is here. I could use the difference to go on a modest holiday and buy one elsewhere. Or maybe, consider donating the savings to NKF again :bsmilie:
The wonders of the word - Warranty. You can buy it elsewhere cheaper, but don't forget, there's no warranty for products NOT purchased local for DSLRs - http://www.nikonuser.org/forum/showthread.php?t=403. Unless the savings are that substantial for you to ignore any possible future repair costs, CCD cleanings, else I think that's where people would choose to buy local stock instead.

Think about it.

I would prefer to buy and use, rather than buy and worry.

:bsmilie: seriously, i still dun understand what does a 1ds mk2 get into a d200 thread.... and to me, that camera is nothing till you own a H1.... :o

and finally i see that at least someone agrees that he just worry too much.:nono:

Hasselbald H2 is on the way I believe? :D

Yup, i'd agree with espn on this one. Rip off is really too strong a word to use.

I got my D70 last year March 2nd, probably just after the first batch (remember it was Feb 28 or something). I ran over to Max Photo to get mine 5 mins after the salesgal called me, luckily i live nearby. I still remember i got it at 2100 or something like that (my nick nothing to do with that har :bsmilie: )? Sold off the kit lens at $470 or $480 i think, so you deduct that.

Even compared to today's D70s pricing a good 21 months later, i would not think my early adoption D70 is a rip-off.
