Well the trade off is the low light noise and and low light AF... not fast enough... but if you typically don't shoot action shots, take your time to frame and shoot, the 7D is right up your park...

Well sometimes i do take sports photography. But I still love its colours. I know shutter usually have a lifespan. If 7D's shutter lifespan is up Will sony change it?

As long as they have stock of the parts, they will change it. The rating is 100,000 shutter counts. It'll be really hard for you to reach it unless you average 1000 shutter counts a week. That would take about 2 years of 1000 shutter counts a week (52,000 x 2 = 104,000) to actually reach the rating given... 1000 shutter actuations a week works out to 200 per day (not counting Sat & Sun)... which works out to 10 shots per hour (given 20 hours a day + 4 hours for sleeping)... I won't worry too much about the shutter though... hehehe...

Oh. I always thought it just 10,000 shots before the shutter up lorry

Huh? Then my 7D would have died long ago... I clocked over 30,000 shutter actuations on the camera before I switched over to the A900. My 7D is now with someone else who will be evidently clocking in the numbers as this is her first DSLR... kekeke...

someone write in dynaxdigital that his minolta DSLR already in the 35th cycle, that's around 350k shots...

I just bought my 7D last week and am VERY impressed by the handling of the camera. Its way better than any Sony Alpha Ive used (ok I didnt use much, only played with A200, and owned/sold away A330, A350, A500). The exposure compensation / flash compensation dailer is absolutely wonderful. Why did Sony remove it from the Alphas??? With the dailer, I can look thru the viewfinder and change compensation at the same time without moving my eyes away. With other DSLRs, I hv to take my camera down, press the exposure compensation button then recompose again. Much more hassle.

Another button I love very much is the MF/AF toggle/hold at the back of the camera. Beats the MF/AF button at the front side of Alphas (harder to reach). Mirror lockup is also a good function of the 7D which will be useful on night photography.

The only complain I have is the low resolution LCD screen. It seems pretty bad when compared to the Sony A500's LCD even thought theres only a 30k resolution difference. I thought they should be comparable, but the 7D's LCD makes picture reviewing very dull. Of cos it doesnt affect picture quality at all, but still I was hoping for a better performance of the LCD.

Nevertheless the 7D is an extremely good camera, great fun to play with :)

haha ya I know :)

Too used to seeing the nice nice colour LCD on modern DSLRs, so abit weird to see the colours of the pictures looking so dull from 7D's LCD screen.

But the picture quality is :thumbsup:

nothing to complain there :)

If only Sony comes out with a new DSLR which has all the modern features and good resolution LCD, and yet retain the exact same handling of the 7D (especially the dual dials!) that would be my dream camera.

just a wild thought.

Do you think its possible to get the LCD replaced with a higher res one? From shops like Camera Workshop?

errr.. no.. i dont think so.. im not an engineer but i dont think they have the expertise.. im not sure if u have to do anything to tweak the tilting lcd and play back functions as well..

Yes, the loss of the 2nd dial is a tough one, I always missed it... the double redundancy where buttons and dials/knobs is also sorely missed. The AF/MF button is found on the A700 & A850/900. So it's still there. The cameras you owned are not in the same class as the 7D.

LCD low res? Well, I find it ok lor... good enough to check composition and after a while you kind of get a good sense of exposure also...

Welcome to the 7D club! I am still loving my 7D after all this while. Call me crazy, but I am happy just looking and holding it!

Yeah that beats me too.. Not just the handling even the IQ is awesome. The best part of the camera is whatever lense you used is G lense quality! You can check my previous page on this thread for the sample pictures! They are almost all taken with kits lens without color processing. Awesome isn't? :p.

Yeah the LCD is much poorer.. But it's quite accurate in exposure, color and sharpness (for zooming in). I have no problem with that. Did you get the plastic protector?

lastly congrats on being a true KM fan... :bsmilie::thumbsup:

Yeah, that one. The 2.5 inc LCD was the first in prosumer class that time. It can only be found on Pro Cameras for Canon/Nikon. Really no complaint here.. :bsmilie:

Haha.. I saw you posting...http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=634030 :bsmilie:
btw you can repair your 7D why not? :D

Hey,

Actually I bought it off Ebay then when I received it, somehow all images written onto the card was gray, though it was captured (can see on the preview after shot). The flash was also dead. Turns out the mainboard was dead and Sony quoted $400+ for repairs. After a week of complaints via Paypal, now finally I can send it back for a refund.. But sucks to have to pay 50 bucks for the return shipping.

So I just got a new 7D from another forum member here.. it feels so good compared to my A200.

The only two "issues" I have is the AF speed and the LCD, but I guess I can live with it.

Just one thing, does anyone know how to make the pictures auto rotate to the correct orientation? My A200 knows when the photo is taken in the portrait orientation, and when copied to my laptop, picasa/lightroom can detect the orientation. My 7D can't seem to do it, or rather I can't find the setting. Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

The user interface can be auto rotate but not the pictures. Glad you finally had a good copy to play with. I'm sure that autorotate function is no big deal. Get yourself a Vertical Grip, the Dynax 7D is awesome to hold with it. It never left my 7d after it came with it.

I've heard that KM5D and KM7D are actually the same, Just that the buttons placement are different. Is it true?

The sensors are the same but the noise reduction logarithm in 5d is slightly better. Yes, the two cameras are of different classes and designs. check depreview.com for pics.

or this http://www.alphamountworld.com/reviews/konica-minolta-maxxum-7d-the-digital-analog-kid:)

image quality will be same. Functions same (as in whatever the 7D can do, the 5D can as well).

the main difference is handling. The 7D does not have a fn button. Every function is accessible via buttons and dials. The 5D works like a sony Alpha, aka relying alot of fn button to access the functions.
